I don't know if this would be applicable to your patient's

presentation, but there is a pretty well-known prepared medicine for

treating bone spurs called Kang Gu Zhi Zeng Sheng Pian (often written

in English as anti-osteophyte tabs). It has a few toxic ingredients,

so be careful and consider your patient's pattern.

BTW, gradual loss of head hair in males in the absence of disease is

not generally considered to be a sign of anything pathological in

modern TCM. However, interestingly enough, men's facial hair was

traditionally thought to be the male equivalent of a women's menstrual

cycle- the discharged blood that women have with menstruation is

considered to have its male counterpart in the whiskers, which is

apparently the traditional site of the man's shedding of blood.

Here is the list of ingredients from the formula mentioned above:

zhi chuan wu

fu zi

ru xiang

rou gui

zhi ma qian zi

dang gui

bai shao

dang shen

yin yang huo

I've had success with acupuncture for heel spur pain. Points are KI-3, UB-60,

KI-2 and UB-63, with local points in theheel where the tendon attaches to the

heel. These heel points are quite painful to needle, but the heel spur pain

was dramatically lessened after treatment for several months at a time.

Heel spur pain does not result from the spur pressing against a nerve. The

pain of heel spurs results from a chronic tearing of the plantar fascia at the

point of the spur. Those people who have radiological evidence of the spur

and have no pain, are not tearing this tissue. Those who do have the chronic

tear experience pain from the inflammation that accompanies the constant

tearing and attempts at healing the tear.

I bought CUSHI HEEL PILLOWS online and they worked wonders. I got them at

the website below. I'd tried all kinds of things for the pain and nothing

worked till I bought these. They eventually went away.

Find a good acupuncturist. A woman I work with had the same problem, and

acupuncture worked for her. No signs of reoccurrance after 3 years.

Beth,

Try Bragg's apple cider vinegar 2T 3x day for about a week. If you don't notice

a difference I would be suprised. Taper down after that. It's a calcium deposit

needing dissolving. Part of that scary word aging!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Beth, I've had a heel spur about 3 times all up on the same foot. I haven't

had one now for about 15 years.. What I did the first time was go to a

specialist that my doctor recommended and he gave me ultra sound therapy I think

it was. Using a small device that was set to a certain strength that somehow

calmed down the painful tissue and I think from what he said it 'melted' the

spur away. It didn't recur for ten years. I went to another Dr then and told

him I wanted another treatment. He didn't know about the ultra sound therapy

but recommended a therapist that would do it. Again after one or two treatments

the spur went away for another ten years. The last time was THE LAST TIME..

Never had any more trouble with it at all. It's worth a try. I think ultra

sound is the name of the little device and the Dr can turn the power up or

down.. If it's too high, you feel an ache in the area being treated. He applies

a cream on the area first. Maybe your Dr will know what I'm talking about. My

Dr rubbed the device all over the heel and within 12 hours all the pain was

gone. It helped even a few minutes after but quickly got much better by the

next day. No pain at all.

This may sound weird but... I was suffering from a heel spur for some time

when my doctor put me on a gluten free diet. My daughter was diagnosed with

celiac disease but all my tests came back negative. However, I was on a high

dose of Armour for thyroid disease and I was severely constipated. I tried

everything! Nothing worked for very long. In nov of 06 I went on the gluten

free diet. Within 3 days the constipation and the heel spur went away and

never came back!! Within 1 month I started lowering my Armour dosage. The doc

said my thyroid was starting to heal itself. As of this month (June, 07) I

have cut my dosage to less than half of what it was!

Every time I put my shoes on Iam so grateful!! Im no doctor but my thought

is it must have to do with the blockage of nutrients with both the

constipation and the heel spur.

Good luck, Carla
