I think I may have CFS. I am having labs done, although I know they

are not definitive. My symptoms are exhaustion all the time - I wake

up tired, many times I am wiped out after doing activities like a

simple hike, mowing the lawn, a lot of housework, I have LOTS of

mulitple joint pain without pain or swelling, my eyes and mouth are

always dry, my lymph nodes are frequently sore, etc. I have had

rhwumatoid arthritis rules out, lupus ruled out. I am beign tested

AGAIN for hypothyroidism. I have had these sympltoms for years and

they got markedly worse after the stessful birth of my first child who

was a sick a difficult baby. I have been treated for depression for

some time and have sleep apnea which I am also having treated.

Any advice on what to do to help relieve symptoms? I have 3 young

children, am in my early 40's and have just applied to a doctorate

program. I don't want to feel like this anymore! Thanks

I'm not a doctor, but I am a sufferer, diagnosed in 1994. Here are some of the

things that have helped me: d-ribose--I buy Jarrow Formula and use two scoops in

a glass of decaf iced tea, twice a day.

Magnesium--250 to 500 mg daily, depending on my bowels (I have IBS and

sometimes need more magnesium to not be constipated)

A good multivitamin, plus omega 3, at least 1000 mg daily.

I try to eat 1500 to 2000 calories a day, and try to keep the sugars

low, and the glycemic index low. No caffiene. I limit things I know are bad for

me: chips, candies, cakes, donuts (man, do I miss donuts!) Yesterday I had some

wonderful chicken tacos. I bake chicken breasts, then sautee onions in a little

olive oil and break the chicken into small pieces and add to the onions. Then

some garlic, cumin, a little ortega chilis, and the meat is ready. I cook the

shells in canola oil, and add tomato, greens and onions. Yumm!

Since I'm trying to lose weight, I'm working at keeping the calories down

to around 1500, but when I overeat, it's usually something like chicken tacos.

Not donuts.

It also helps if I can get in a 15 minute nap during the day.

And when all else fails and I'm having a lot of pain, I take Tramadol, a

Rx pain med.

I generally have more pain than fatigue. When my temperature raises to

99.5, my lymph glands swell and hurt, and I can't seem to get out of bed, I

increase my water intake, stop my sugar intake, and do as little as possible.

This takes planning. When I'm feeling good, I make a couple of meals and put

them in the freezer. I don't have small children but if I did, I'd make sure

there were snacks they could get for themselves and special games or toys they

could play with only when I wasn't feeling well. It makes the toys special to

the kids so they tend to stay put for a while.

One of the ways I reduce those incidences is to massage the lymph glands

when they aren't hurting, especially the ones in the chest, around the collar

bone and sternum.

And here's the part you'll probably hate: exercise. I know. It hurts

and you feel exhausted afterward. But when I manage to maintain a habit of 15

minutes of aerobic exercise a day, I feel much better in the long run. Right now

I have a cracked bone in one foot and strained tendons in both shoulders, so I'm

getting no exercise. And I can feel the difference.

There's probably a lot more, but that's all I can remember right now.

Hope this helps.

Vicki

In addition to hypothyroid testing (Free T4 and Free T3, not JUST TSH, and

get a copy of the labs! Any TSH over 2 should be treated, not over 6 as the

labwork states), you should also have your adrenal function tested via

4x/day saliva testing.

I would suggest the you use something other than canola oil.

Canola oil is harmful 'imo'. Olive or grape seed oil for cooking.

Vicki,

If you're using a cell phone, I suggest your giving it up.

Micro-waving your brain is going to keep you a 'sufferer.'

Dear Fiveholts (interesting name)

I hope you have success in re-esablishing your good health.

Someone with a child has their hands full.

Someone with 3 children is very busy indeed.

Someone doing a doctorate needs time, focus, energy, help.

I'm starting to get fatigued thinking about it.

I know a CFS sufferer who rests

and then goes flatout to fatigue again.

What I'm saying is, to have so many symptoms throughout your body and

life there is likely no one simple answer. Its good that you are

getting tests to determine (what?).

Many well meaning professionals tend to miss some basics.

Do you consume refined sugar in any shape or form?

Eat a low quality diet of refined foods?

Do you smoke or drink alcohol?

Do you drink enough good clean water? (2 litres per day)

Do you avoid refined table salt, and in all your foodstuffs?

Are you eating top quality Unrefined Sea Salt?

Do you exercise your body (even gently like yoga) everyday. 1hr+?

Have you had your body fluids checked for pH levels? urine & saliva.

Do you drink processed cows milk?

Have you only just begun

to look into alternative/complimentary medicine?

I'm not meaning to be insulting, just helpful ideas.

I wish you a wholesome longterm good health of mind and body.

Jerome:

Thanks for the warning. I don't have a cell phone. Can't afford it. Besides, I

live so far out in the boondocks, I don't think they work here.
