I live in Canada and have used stevia since 1988. It was not

banned here, for some reason. And it certainly has never given my any problems

at

all. In fact, since using it, I use less sweetener then I did before. As for

the taste of stevia; I have been told that not all stevia tastes the same. The

poorer quality ones can taste lousy. However in my experiance using too much

also effects the taste adversely regardless whether it is stevia or real

sugar. Maybe I just don't like the a very very sweet taste though too.

Mon Apr 9, 2007 11:43 pm (PST) I was introduced to stevia just prior to it

being banned by the FDA in the early 90's, I bought a pound of the dried herb

during the ban that was marked not for internal use, that carried me thru the 4

yrs of the ban. When it was finally released back on the market it was only as

a supplement and not as an additive. Formerly Celestial Seasonings and a few

others were using stevia to sweeten their teas. I have used stevia all this

time and still love it. I both grow my own plants as well as buy the liquid

stevia from SweetLeaf I use it in places one would normally use sugar. It does

not

affect my blood sugar, does not cause the " crashing " you get from sugar and

it doesn't rot your teeth. Need I say more. I personally love the taste, but

some apparently don't care for it.
