Guest guest
About a year ago I made the big step and purchased the vita-mix blender. This is a " very strong " blender which will make juice from all kinds of fruit/veggies, as well as do much much more. The real health benefits is that it makes juice from the " whole fruit/veggie " which includes the pulp, so you're consuming the whole thing. It's so strong that you can make juice from quartering an apple and placing it with a whole carrot. No need to chop it down at all. It will also make " hot soup " in 3 minutes from placing fresh tomatoes in it. To find out more about it, just google vita-mix and their website will show up. Guest guest
all this talk about jiucing...isn't better to eat the WHOLE fruit or vegetable?....thereby getting the fiber that is contained in the whole food? i.e. the rind of an orange is great for cleaning out the intestinal tract..etc etc I believe getting the fiber from these foods is more beneficial than just the juice. juicers, etc. About a year ago I made the big step and purchased the vita-mix blender. Guest guest
Yes, eating whole is the best way to go, but who can possibly eat the amount of veggies or fruit that goes into juicing? As for the amount of fiber that gets lost in the pulp bin, save it for other recipes or dishes for later that day and get it in that way. Nothing goes to waste here. So, juicing becomes a concentrated way to get your nutrients without having to eat a large amount daily. The rinds can be juiced as well as long as they are organic. Some things that tend to be less appealing can be juiced with a granny smith apple or a carrot and turned into a desired taste. I always use whole lemon in mine as well. It by far is not a substitute for eating whole foods as one should still do, but an added benefit. Just my thoughts... franki5440 <Franki5440 wrote: all this talk about jiucing...isn't better to eat the WHOLE fruit or vegetable?....thereby getting the fiber that is contained in the whole food? i.e. the rind of an orange is great for cleaning out the intestinal tract..etc etc I believe getting the fiber from these foods is more beneficial than just the juice. Guest guest
From what I understand, juicing opens the cell walls of the fruit and allows your body to better absorb the nutrients. Chewing and digestion can do this, but not as effectively as a juicer. Juicing a carrot will give you far more nutrients, although less fiber, than just eating a carrot. Does anyone have a better explanation or want to correct me on this? , " franki5440 " <Franki5440 wrote: > > all this talk about jiucing...isn't better to eat the WHOLE fruit or vegetable?....thereby getting the fiber that is contained in the whole food? i.e. the rind of an orange is great for cleaning out the intestinal tract..etc etc I believe getting the fiber from these foods is more beneficial than just the juice. Guest guest
Juicing vegetables is a great way to get the benefit from a large amount AND variety of vegetables. Most people would never be able to eat the amount of veggies that they juice. It also provides superb nutrient content to the body. However, you should always eat some veggies (or eat the pulp) to get fiber content. Vegetables, especially the green vegetables, offer a vast amount of vitamins to help the body with repair and healing. I don't recommend juicing fruit very often because the sugar content in the juice will cause an insulin spike. For those fighting any type of degenerative disease, this is not helpful. If you eat fruit then the fiber of the fruit will help to keep the insulin levels down. Plus, eating the fruit provides everything the fruit has to offer in a synergistic way to the body. We do not need to be eating vast amounts of fruit and the less sweet a fruit is, probably the better it is for you. By the way, if you chew effectively (some say at least 20 times) it will help your digestion tremendously. Digestion begins in the mouth and is always more effective than a juicer, if you are chewing your food properly. Gulping food down is a huge reason for digestion problems. Guest guest
The theory of juicing is based on the concept that the mild losses from separating the juice from the whole food, are more than compensated for, by the immense gains made from obtaining substantial amounts of nutrients from juicing vegetables and some fruits, producing the highest possible digestiblility, in the smallest amount of time. When I was in my thirties, my health was radically transformed with the advice I received from a healer who specialized in raw vegetables, nuts and seeds, juices, and water fasting. His routine diet, always called for 2 large, raw, " combination " salads (by which he meant, that they contained a combination of every vegetable you could assemble in your kitchen, especially the green leafy variety) eaten daily, in addition to the juices he prescribed, so that there was always considerable fiber content supplied by the salads, and rapid healing and vitality supplied by the juices (mostly celery and/or carrot, to which apple, was occassionaly added). jp From what I understand, juicing opens the cell walls of the fruit and allows your body to better absorb the nutrients. Guest guest
Loretta, You've presented everything you need to know about juicing in a very concise way, thank you! Personally, I only drink vegetable juices in the morning, as a daily routine, and I do fortify it with freshly ground flax seeds and a green powder called Emerald Balance... keeps me regular. When I do a cleansing fast, I do use fruits like apples and black grapes for juicing as my main source of calories, but that's only a couple of times a year, in the summer! I just want to add that food and supplementation are not the only things you can do to help you keep healthy! A very important variable in our efforts to maintain balance is physical exercise; people in our society have a consumer mentality; we think that everything can be solved by a taking in something and forget the other side of the coin, the giving out! Body, Mind and Spirit form a whole and work best when balanced and integrated... it is impossible and foolish to try to understand/explain an organism by thinking of it as an isolated sack of chemical compounds! I know that this list helps a lot of people who are looking for alternative treatments to some serious and immediate health challenges by providing references and support so that they can make an informed decision! My only point is that the best medicine(what the Chinese call superior medicine) you can have is the one that helps you stay healthy in the first place! In the old days in China, wealthy families had a personal physician that would " take care " of the whole family! He would be paid a regular salary all year long, but the money would be stopped the minute a family member would get sick and would only be reinstated when a cure was found! Interesting concept! Imagine if that principle was applied to our modern health care system! The insurance companies would love it, but the AMA, FDA, and of course big PHARMA would never let it happen! There is a whole DISEASE Industry out there that would be cut down to a small fraction, if preventative medicine became a viable political movement! Exercise your vote wisely!
