Guest guest
Because of the conflicting stories about whether acid-loving bacteria survive transit through the stomach to the gut, I'll post a few studies here; the outcome apparently varies with species. Here's a full study that indicates some organisms do, and some do not get through the gut alive: http://aem.asm.org/cgi/content/full/72/7/5113?view=long & pmid=16820518 Here's a negative study from 2005 that found it worked OK in only 10 of 96 subjects: http://tinyurl.com/3cvvtu This study points out that of five species of bifidobacvteria tested with bile acids, " Most bifidobacteria are poorly resistant to strongly acidic conditions with the exception of Bifidobacterium lactis Bb12. " http://tinyurl.com/37xxff There will continue to be dialog and research but these are recent studies. Bonnie.
