Guest guest
Dr.Julian Whitaker,MD in his newsletter Health & Healing of March 2007, _www.drwhitaker.com_ (http://www.drwhitaker.com) wrote about the rediscovered use of an old drug to enhance immune function. The drug is Naltrexone, whic was originally approved as drug to wean drug addicts off opiates. It attaches to the opiod receptors in the brain so heroin cannot give an addict the high that is desired. But since it also inhibited the binding of natural endorphins and enkephalins that boost mood and well being, few people were able to stay on it at the original dosage of 50 mg. Dr.Bernard Bihari,MD of New York City recalled research suggesting that lower doses of Naltrexone might stimulate endorphin release. He began giving low doses from 1.75 to 4.5 mg at bedtime to his AIDS patients. Their endorphin levels doubled and tripled and their immune systems rallied. He began giving it to a friend with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma andher tumors shrank and disappeared. He gave it to afriend who had Multiple Sclerosis (MS), for 5 years she had no symptoms, she ran out of Naltrexone, the MS returned and now that she went back on it the MS disappeared again and that was 16 years ago. Over the years Dr.Bihari has treated patients for many types of cancer, the colon, prostate, , melanoma, multiple myeloma, breast, ovarian, uterine, brain, neuroblastoma, lung, Hodgkin's Disease, non Hodgkin's Lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia. He estimates that 60% of cancer patients, received benefits from Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN). He followed a group of patients from 1999 to 2004 and reported that 86 had a minimum tumor reduction of 75% and were headed toward remission. Another 125 had stabilized but did not achieve that level of tumor shrinkage. 9 Had Tumor progression, and 84, most of whom were very sick to begin with died. Dr.Burton Berkson,MD of Las Cruces,New Mexico has been using LDN and alpha lipoic acid in his clinic. In 2006 he published a case study in Integrative Cancer Therapies, 2006;5(1):83-89 on the case of a 46 year old man with pancreatic cancer with liver metasteses, which has a very bleak prognosis of 3 to 6 months. This man was taking 3 to 4.5 mg of naltrexone at bedtime along with 300-600 mg of intravenous alpha lipoic acid twice a week and daily supplementation with lipoic acid, selenium, silymarin and B Complex vitamins. Today he is back at work, symptom free. LDN use for Autoimmune disorders including MS, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn's Disease appears to be even better. The therapeutic dose of LDN is 1.75 -4.5 mg is most common. It must be taken at bedtime.Do not use time release or full strength naltrexone (50 mg). Try it for at least 3 months to evaluate effectiveness. It should not be taken by patients on opioid narcotics. A multi center trial of LDN for MS is underway in Italy. In order to get it you will need a prescription. standard Pharmacies only have 50 mg doses so you will have to go to a compounding pharmacist. If you can't find a doctor willing to prescribe it see Dr.Bihari in NYC 212-929-4196 or for autoimmune disorders Dr.Berkson in Las Cruces,NM 505-524-3720 or the Whitaker Wellness Institute 800-488-1500. Guest guest
Moderator's Note: And the gold star goes to Ratan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naltrexone Thank you for pointing this out.. Please forgive us moderators here at Alternative Medicine Forum as we go take some vitamins.. ------------- I thought Alternative Medicine Forum is only for non-prescription supplements. Naltrexone I think is a prescription drug.
