Guest guest
Does anyone have any experience using natural progesterone? I have read some of it's negative is it's stored in fat cells and stays there up to 2 years. Thanks.

I have been using a low-dose natural progesterone cream called Pro-Gest, available from health food stores in the U.S., since 1999. I started using it to deal with the excruciating pain of endometriosis, for which it has proven to be remarkably effective. Now that that is no longer a problem for me, I continue to use it because it also helps me with depression, anxiety, and insomnia. I am 50 years old and approaching menopause. I've heard the negative stuff about it being stored in fat cells and being hard to eliminate from the body and all that. Well, I have no idea what is stored in my fat cells, frankly, and I can only say I continue to get benefits from it, and I have been using it almost 8 years now. There are much higher-dose creams available and perhaps that is where the problems lie, I don't know. Cathy B.
Guest guest
Hi Cathy, thanks for the information, I appreciate it. I'm interested in using it because of fibroids, which are a result of high estrogen low progesterone. I am currently using Wild Yam as an alternative. It's been determined I don't need to have them removed considering I didn't know they were there until the sonogram. I am, however, interested in having a proper hormonal balance as I've read progesterone does assist in mood swings related to PMS, depression, energy levels, etc. As I read up on all of this I've found B vitamins are an essential part of women's health as well. Apparently, the liver plays a huge role in the production of hormones, which is directly related to issues concerning depression. Have you seen Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom by Christiane Northrup? It's a great compendium on women's health. She recommends the natural progesteron cream, but I have the 1998 edition, not the updated one, and a lot happens in 9 years. Hi, Jenny, I hate to tell you this, but I would NOT recommend natural progesterone cream for control of fibroids, in spite of what progesterone-advocating doctors such as Dr. John Lee and Dr. Christiane Northrup, have recommended. In my previous post I mentioned that I used it successfully for endometriosis, but I also had fibroids which GREW during that time, which I had removed by surgery (myomectomy) in 2005--I didn't HAVE to have them removed, but I had to have emergency surgery to have an ovary removed due to an infected cyst, so I requested to have the fibroids removed at the same time. When I first started using natural progesterone cream back in 1999, I was under the impression from what I had read in books by Dr. Lee and Dr. Northrup that the progesterone cream would also be helpful with the fibroids, but this turned out not to be the case--it was only helpful for the endometriosis. Some years later I went online and joined some online support groups for women with endometriosis and fibroids, and what I found out from other women pretty much mirrored my own experience--the women with endometriosis love natural progesterone cream because it stops the pain, and the women with fibroids hate the stuff because it made their fibroids grow. Many of the women with fibroids were bitterly disappointed and very angry at how much their fibroids grew and the need to have surgery for the problem as a result. In my particular case, I was having so much pain from the endometriosis that I have no regrets about using the progesterone cream because it solved that problem completely, even though my fibroids grew significantly. For me it was worth it. But for women whose primary concern is fibroids, using progesterone cream probably is not a wise course of action. Dr. John Lee, who recommended natural progesterone cream for both endometriosis and fibroids in his early books, actually recanted on the issue of fibroids in his later books, stating that the natural progesterone might very well stimulate larger fibroids to grow. Guest guest
Cathy, thanks so much for telling me this. You don't know how much I appreciate it. I wonder if the Wild Yam might assist their growth as well, which I am taking, may just stop that too. Thank you thank you. This is what I find frustrating about holistic healers-- They have a similar smugness traditional doctors have. And yet, they say: Take your health into your own hands. How are you supposed to do this when the info is crossed or inaccurate or out of date? I was thinking of taking the cream to balance out the hormones, I had no expectations the fibroid would shrink. I think I will look into that support group thing, to get more info. You have just simplified my life awhole lot... Guest guest
I can't go without my " Enjoy " ....progesterone cream! It's natural, I get it from my local health food store. Along with the progesterone, I take these supplements. B Complex C Zinc Evening Primrose Oil Magnesium Since I've been doing this, my MAJOR anxieties have been highly reduced, improved my mood swings greately and I feel sooooo much better while I'm on my periods. Better than I have ever felt since I started. That might sounds extreme to some but I didn't have a healthy upbringing...nuff said there! Anyhoo....I hope this helps. For more info on perimenopause go here http://drphil.com/articles/article/118 I printed it out and have been living by in since and my life is much better because of it. Guest guest
I think its a little simplistic to say don't use it to treat fibroids. They can cause fibroids to grow IF your hormones remain out of balance. Dr Lee no longer thinks everyone should use hormone creams longterm - he insists on ongoing testing - if you are getting the right amount of cream for you, with correct mix of the hormones you are deficient in, then they're going to help. but longterm use without ongoing testing can cause problems. So the answer isn't as simple as go order or buy a creme and use it. There are home test kits available through http://www.hormoneprofiles.com You need to check your levels each six months or so, or have them tested. Best is if you can get a creme made up specifically for you, based on your testing, so an exact amount based on your specific needs can be made up - but you do need to be seeing a doctor to have this done, a doctor who will continue to do testing of your balances. Guest guest
Sara, from what I've read the cream is used to balance the hormones, not to shrink the fibroids. The only thing I am aware of that shrinks them is menopause. I am also under the impression women choose to use the cream to help them with PMS, cramping, mood swings, endometriosis (sp?)etc. as some of the respondents have posted to my original query. , Sara Mandal-Joy <smjlists wrote: > > I think its a little simplistic to say don't use it to treat fibroids. > They can cause fibroids to grow IF your hormones remain out of balance. > Dr Lee no longer thinks everyone should use hormone creams longterm - he > insists on ongoing testing - if you are getting the right amount
Guest guest
My experience with natural progesterone cream & fibroids has been a totally positive one. I suffered horribly until I started on the NPC. I take a week off every month to allow the hormone receptors to not get overwhelmed. I can't say enough about this wonderful stuff!
