Guest guest
Hashimoto's Thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease of the thyroid. It's only named that because of the guy who found it. In Hashimoto's the body thinks that your thyroid tissue is a foreign invader and tries to destroy it. Mine was found only because I have a goiter that is noticeable to practitioners. Others with this disease do not always have Hashi's so that is why I recommend when getting your thyroid levels checked to also get the antibodies checked. Many physicians do not and you have to firmly request it.. It's your right to get one and they should not deny you. I don't know what their problem is with it most of the time. The problem with Hashimoto's is that there is no cure. You cannot just take a pill, other than thryoid supplements if you are hypo or hyper-thyroid. The key to treating my Hashi's for instance is by building up my immune system and getting my endocrine system back in order. Most people with Hashimoto's have one other autoimmune disease as well, like CFS. It's grown increasingly more and more common. Just last year my doc said that she was becoming worried because she was diagnosing 2-3 new cases per week. -Wendi Frances Robinson <barobinson66 Monday, January 8, 2007 5:33:54 AM Re: How can you be sure if it's your thyroid/adrenals? What is Hashimoto? I too often come to a stop light and still think my car is moving. I had thyroid issues related to my CFS that my OBGYN found that no other M.D. could figure out, or look any further for answers. I too had dizzy spells. They would last for several days though. It freaked me out because when I would come to a stop light it felt like the car was still moving. NOT fun! > > I also saw an endocrinologist who was as helpful as terd. Also, next time you get a lab done, ask for a full panel that will include antibodies. It's called and Anti-TPO. That will tell you if you have Hashimoto's which really changes the way that you should treat your TSH number. > > Best of luck.
