Bacteria in raw chicken: what the USDA isn't telling you

There's more in your store-bought chicken than meets the eye.

Tests by Consumer Reports have shown that the rate of campylobacter

contamination found in supermarket chickens has almost doubled since

2003! Campylobacter not only causes stomach problems, but can also

lead to meningitis, arthritis, and Guillian-Barre syndrome, a

neurological disorder.

Protect yourself and your family from this dangerous disease-causing

bacteria! Call on the USDA to raise the standards for raw chicken.

Campylobacter and salmonella made more than 3.4 million people sick

and killed 700, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control

and Prevention's most recent year of data.

Yet the USDA has NO standards, rules, or limits on campylobacter

bacteria. Consumers Union petitioned the USDA in 2002 to set a

standard for campylobacter, but the agency took no action.

We've had enough. The USDA needs to take preventable measures and

stop dangerous bacteria from getting into our chicken. Sign the

petition to demand a standard for campylobacter in raw poultry now!
