Guest guest
Robert Harrison is a 13 Year volunteer on the Suicide and Crisis hotlines. He has written a book that is now being released by a West Coast publisher. " Saturday Night Crisis Lines - A book about compassion and mercy from the telephone hotlines of a big city crisis intervention center " . It's an easy read and the actual calls cover every human emotional behavior. This type of book has not been done before, so it's not a " me too thing " . Thank you available on amazon.com mckennapubgrp.com order from bookstores. \ " Saturday Night Crisis Lines " is about life at the desperate level, about the affluent and the poor, about people with doctorate and masters degrees, as well as the high school dropout. This is life at its most traumatic expressed by callers as they seek help, as well as a compassionate and calming voice on the crisis hotline. A caller on a Saturday night wants to know what to say in a note to his wife and son. " I have a gun on the desk in front of me. " He is a senior executive in a Fortune 500 company. A young stockbroker in his mid-thirties calls: " I start looking for the Twin Towers and they aren't there. I last saw them an hour ago in Midtown. I know what happened but emotionally I can't handle it. " The caller was seventy-eight years old. For the past several years he had been drinking far too much trying to drown some bad memories as well as the loneliness after his wife of fifty years died. " The memories, how far back to they go? " asked the hotline volunteer. " To the 1940s, the war years, " replied the caller. " What campaign? " " Guadalcanal. " " You were in the 1st Marine Division? " " Yes, we landed in August, 1942, " the caller replied.
