Guest guest
I was recently discussing cayenne with a friend about how newspapers were behind the times with " news " of the medicinal qualities of said chilli. Reading from my copy of The Herb Society's Complete Medicinal Herbal by Penelope Ody who is well regarded in England, and I was taken aback by the cautions of excessive consumption. CAUTIONS ... The seeds can be toxic, so don't use them. ..Follow dosages carefully; excessive consumption of cayenne can lead to gastro-enteritis and liver damage. ..Avoid therapeutic doses in pregnancy and while breast feeding. ..Do not leave a compress on the skin for long periods, especially on very sensitive skin. ..Avoid touching the eyes or any cuts after handling fresh chillies.
