Guest guest
Genetic Testing Kits in Drugstores Beginning Friday, shoppers in search of toothpaste, deodorant and laxatives at more than 6,000 drugstores across the nation will be able to pick up something new: a test to scan their genes for a propensity for Alzheimer's disease, breast cancer, diabetes and other ailments. The test also claims to offer a window into the chances of becoming obese, developing psoriasis and going blind. For those thinking of starting a family, it could alert them to their risk of having a baby with cystic fibrosis, Tay-Sachs and other genetic disorders. The test also promises users insights into how caffeine, cholesterol-lowering drugs and blood thinners might affect them. The over-the-counter test marks the first foray of personalized genomic medicine into the corner drugstore. The move is being welcomed by those who hope that deciphering the genetic code will launch a new era in biomedical science. But it's being feared by those who worry it will open a Pandora's box of confusion, privacy violations, genetic discrimination and other issues. http://ow.ly/1K4pw

Guest guest
The Spit & Ship Test Kit will cost about $30.00 and the Lab test for the results range from $70 to $450.00 depending on what you want to find out. Still it seems to be a real cool way to see your possible problems and correct it ! Guest guest
I think it is crapola. They get individuals to pay for a complete file saved by some (who do they work for?) company. Insurance companies, government, Lord knows who or what might have access to the information (your employer?). If you think for a sec, every generation your forebears double (2 parents, four grandparents, eight great grand parents, and so forth) so by the time you go back just a few generations, you have something in common with too many folks for anything to mean anything but, for a corporation, it could be an excuse to fire or hire you, patent your blood and tissues, raise your rates on something and even much more dire. Personally, I ain't going for it. oleander soup , Ron <rw wrote: > > The Spit & Ship Test Kit will cost about $30.00 and the Lab test for the > results range from $70 to $450.00 depending on what you want to find out. > Still it seems to be a real cool way to see your possible problems and > correct it ! > Ron > > > On 5/13/2010 6:41 AM, robert-blau wrote: > > > > Genetic Testing Kits in Drugstores > > > > Beginning Friday, shoppers in search of toothpaste, deodorant and > > laxatives at more than 6,000 drugstores across the nation will be able > > to pick up something new: a test to scan their genes for a propensity > > for Alzheimer's disease, breast cancer, diabetes and other ailments. > > > > The test also claims to offer a window into the chances of becoming > > obese, > > developing psoriasis and going blind.
