Hiya Chris!

Nope not from down under, sorry about that. I take their distant learning

classes online. There is a branch right here in the states in Oregon. It is

actually the second class I have taken from them. I also took their Nutrition

and Bodycare class and that only left me wanting to learn more. You can check

them out at www.herbed.com We live in the North Carolina Foothills. And I am

so excited. This year my husband already has my garden and flower beds dug up

for me to put in. We are ordering all our herbs and veggies next week! I have

always grown them in pots or small flower beds, but this year I have two huge

garden plots and two flower beds and a hot pepper bed to boot!!!

Have a wonderful Monday, going off to make my list of herbs to order!

Hi Judi,

First off I want to say I am SO sorry that I called you Joyce (DUR!).

Next, glad to have ya here, even if you aren't in Australia *lol* ;)

That is so cool about the school. Thanks for the info. I will certainly

check it out!

Spring is right around the corner (although here in Houston you'd think

it is here already being in the low 60's and its almost 11PM). I got a

bunch of seeds and plan on weeding some garden areas and getting some

planting done this weekend. I'm already behind on starting the tomatoes!

YIKES! Happy plating to you :)

Anyone got any seeds they want to share/swap? I used to have a killer

stash of all kinds of medicinal and heirloom seeds, but I gave them ALL

away to some local farmers I lived near in Colorado. I have to start

from scratch now.

Hi Fran,

Just wanted to give you a welcome greeting. You'll find a wealth of

info here for sure! Wonderful, very wise people have gathered on this

list. I learn something new here every day.

Your herb gardens sound lovely. I SO enjoyed my herb gardens of the

past, but haven't yet attempted one here in Arizona. This climate is

new to me and totally different than any I've lived in before. Once I

have the time though, it will be fun to discover which herbs grow

well in this very dry, hot zone.

Welcome to the group Fran!

Welcome aboard Fran :)

I hope you like it here. This is a great group of folks here IMHO ;)

We have quite a few members who raise goats, so you'll be in good

company. Do you make cheese?

Two medicinal herb gardens, awesome ... are you into seed swapping by

any chance? I am totally wanting to get a seed swap set up for February

(this is where one of the new list assistants, who will be announced

this week, will come in handy :) I literally had a bushel basket of all

kinds of seeds that I gave away a few years ago to a family of farmers

that I knew back in Colorado, so I have to start from scratch per se ...

and seed swaps are a great way to do it if ya ask me <grinz>

Hi Everyone.....

Just wanted to briefly introduce myself. My hubby and I live in

northwestern North Carolina and raise Boer percentage goats.

I have two medicinal herb gardens....which I started over the past

two years. As I am a novice in this area, I want to learn as much

as I can about herbs and their uses. I have also just started using

eo's....another area I want to learn more about.

I am very happy to be a listmember :).

Hi Bonnie,

Sorry I didn't get to this message before - but - Welcome to the group!

Its great to have you aboard. Get comfy, make yourself at home and jump

right into the fun. Don't worry about us getting " sick of hearing " from

you .. we like having folks with all ranges of interests and levels of

skill here!

And have fun making those bubble baths! The decyl polyglucose makes a

fabulous bubble bath :)

On Behalf Of Bonnie Walker

Hello,

My name is Bonnie and I just joined this list yesterday after a friend

of

mine forwarded me the polyglucose pre-buy info (I am sure my daughter

will

go through 8 lbs of it in no time -- she's a bubble bath addict with

lots of

skin sensitivities!). I have always been interested in herbal/natural

healing and became an official " hobbyist " while pregnant with my first &

only kid 3 years ago (she's now 2.5 and can throw a damn good hissy fit!

well, she learned from the best as i'm sure my dad would love to point

out.). Had an at home water birth and can't recommend it enough to

anyone

willing to listen to some lunatic who never stepped foot in a doctor's

office or hospital to have a baby!

My official career is web developer and I have a proprietary website

called

" Web Baby Shower " where I offer online baby shower services, baby shower

games, pregnancy info, mother blessing (blessingway) planning info,

organic

pregnancy tea, and toddler software, among other things. I am in the

process of switching my company name to " Snowboard Mommy Productions " as

" Web Baby Shower " just doesn't quite cover the range of services and

products I provide anymore. Plus, I am an avid snowboarder and everyone

may

as well know up front that if I haven't replied immediately to their

email

it's probably b/c I'm stuck in some tree well on the backside of Mt.

Bachelor (Bend, OR)! One of the best reasons to become an advanced

skier/snowboarder is so you can get out of the cell phone coverage range

at

any resort! No, actually I CAN'T hear you now!!; )

I also want to get out of the baby shower niche (I never really planned

to

get there, somehow I'm there anyway) and plan to expand my online

services

to include all types of celebrations (not just baby showers) and even

memorial websites. I also do e-commerce and content management

solutions

for small-medium businesses as a freelance web developer.

As far as herbalism goes, I am still an advanced beginner and hobbyist

and

am considering doing an herbalism distance course as I would like to

expand

my line of natural pregnancy and baby care items (or I guess CREATE a

line

since I only have one product right now).

But, enough about me. I only know enough to be dangerous so I'm sure

you'll

all be sick of hearing from me in no time !!

Happy mothers' day to all the moms on the list. (and thanks for the

bouquet, Michelle!)

~Bonnie

Hi Dawn:

Diet can make all the difference, healthy diets makes for healthy people.

Make sure your children have a healthy diet. Lots of fresh organic

fruits and vegetables, no soda, no high fructose corn syrup. no

hydrogenated oils, no refined sugars, become a label reader and watch

out for chemicals and other unhealthy ingredients. No fast food from

junk joints like McDonalds and Burger king. You will notice that they

no longer have Add and Adhd. If the school has made you think your

son's have this condition, take it with a grain of salt. The schools

get a monthly monetary reward for getting these children on

prescription drugs. One of my grandaughters friends had been on

ritalin for years. She changed her diet started eating healthy,

stopped the ritalin. Her concentration improved and so did her grades.

I know that making changes with children is not easy, I raised 5, but

if you want healthy children stick to it and you will not be sorry.

Best Wishes

Sheila

Hi Jessie and welcome to this group!

I think it's so cool that you distill and cooler yet that you're doing the Sitka

Spruce. That was kinda sad when it went down. That was a pretty good storm.

Can't wait to hear more about your Oregon based perfumes. I too am into a lot

of things that you are. I'm just starting with the perfuming, but am an old

hand at soapmaking and toiletries.

Good to see you here.

Hi Everyone

My name is Jessie Ring and I am distilling essential oils here in

portland Oregon. Currently I am distilling oil from the Largest

Sitka Spruce in North America. She fell down in that last whopper of

a storm that hit the coast in November. From collection, through

distillation, the experience of working with this " Queen Sitka " has

been very meaningful and rich.

I discovered essential oils about ten years ago whne I started using

them for massage, and general purpose medicine. Now I find myself

seedind and planting the fallow family farm with many varieties of

lavender, rosemary, mint, spearmint, clary sage, cottonwood, thyme,

quince and many others. I also wildcraft native plants for

distillation such as Western Red Cedar, Douglas Fir, Noble Fir,

Western Hemlock, Birch, and Juniper.

I am mixing and designing a line of body products based on these

local oils, and I hope to have the skill, in a few years, to unveil

some very Oregon-based perfumes. I have found that learning about

fragrance has tied my life together in a pattern that I love - my

niche exists in my upstairs laboratory where I mix tinctures and

oils, resins and leaves - perpetually surprised to find that it is

2:00am as I climb down the stairs towards dreams that now come with

smells....

Cheers Everyone! So glad to be a part of this forum.

Hi everyone

I am Janet of the Great White North. I've been a member of this group

for a couple of years and consider it 'home'.

Soon, you will be meeting by email, a good friend named Amanda who had

weird cyber issues getting onto the list.

Amanda just lost her dad to cancer a couple of months ago and was just

diagnosed herself recently.

Please giver her the typical warm oleander welcome. She'll explain

all her issues herself and I'm hoping she'll get confirmation about

taking all the bizarre and strange remedies I've introduced her to.

Hello All and thank you Janet for the introduction. To say I am overwhelmed at this point would be a gross understatement. Last week I was diagnosed with Basel Cell Carcinoma. Though it is a low risk cancer I am still quite freaked out because of my family history. My father died of cancer, his father, his mother, his brother and 10 of his 12 aunts and uncles. So as you can see the odds are stacked a bit against me. I have lots of questions but here is just one to get going. I am fair skinned, freckles and as a child was a red head so you might have an idea of the skin I am dealing with. I can get burned just thinking about the hot sun let alone being out in it. Janet has talked a lot to me over this last year about vitamin D3 and for the better part of the winter we took it each day waiting for summer. However now I have been instructed by a Dr. to not have any skin exposed to direct sun. I am reluctant to slather on sun screen so I have purchased some shirts rated for UV 50 and a wide brim hat. But what about D3 now? Do I take more? Will it still get through the clothes? I am open to hearing information anyone might have about any aspects of treating this illness as well as preventative measures for other cancers. Thanks for having me to the group.
