This information is important to know as we are spiraling down to where in order to get safe and nutritious food we will have to grow it ourselves or buy from local farmers that are growing without harmful chemicals. Monsanto seems to have Obama's ear. (The following is from Robert Cohen) " Six months ago, Islam Siddiqui was a pesticide lobbyist for Monsanto. This past week, the Obama Administration took another step in fulfilling our nation's destiny to become the new United States of Monsantoland. Monsanto's own Islam Siddiqui has been confirmed as the new Czar at USDA. Siddiqui ascends to the position of the United State's Chief Agricultural Negotiator. With top posts in medicine and agriculture going to Merck and Monsanto insiders I do not see this administration as being a true friend of natural or organic despite the positive spin and fluff pieces they put out. For example, in case you did not understand, USDA organic is a MARKETING tool and NOT a safety measure for the public. Do you remember the organic spinach scare? A true organic farmer would not ever think of spreading cow manure on his field. To the FDA, organic is the " intention " to be natural but not that actual action of complying with organic ideals. I spent 2 days at the FDA website reading their rules (NOP) deciphered what I could and then promptly lost the file with my notes. Since the site made me cross eyed and dazed and eventually brought tears to my eyes, it will be a bit longer until I revisit it. another example is that organic cows must have " access " to free range grazing. That does not mean they get to actually graze. I have access to get the Rosetta Stone language disks but that does not mean I am going to be buying them and learning a new language. The last I heard (maybe it has changed, I hope, I hope) grass fed foot footed grazers, even buffalo, must be brought into corral and fed grains for the last 60 days of their lives. FDA and a USDA organic label does not connote safety. It denotes corporations doing as little as possible to get you to spend as much as possible. I've come to believe that USDA organic means " fit for human consumption " while with non organic foods, you better take supplements. Pooey.
