Pam,

Have you had your thyroid checked? Also, the ingredients in most shampoos accelerate hair loss. Do you roll your hair tightly on rollers? Stress also exacerbates hair loss. You will get lots of wonderful information from the guys on this site.

Good luck.

Pam -

You may be able to find some help here (especially with dietary considerations):

/Baldness_and_Thinning_Hair.htm

Two things in particular effect hair health: stress and cigarette smoking. Too much caffeine can also hurt. All three of those items take away vitamins and nutrients that normally are used by the hair.

All the best,

Dear Pam,

When women lose their hair it most likely it is hormone defficiencies. It happened to my aunt. Have your thyroid checked and also a hormone panel done. The best and most accurate are 24 hour urine tests not blood for your hormones. A holistic or osteopath doctor do the hormone urine panels, most mainstream docs only do the blood.

Good Luck~ Tammatha

Very sorry for this. It must be worrisome.

Stress can be a major factor as well as loss of estrogen after menopause.

If you are of a mind, see a doc regarding compounded estrogen.

I'd think about throwing away my hairbrush and going for a soft comb or even

finger combing. Don't blow dry any more.

Yams are really helpful and rice, apples, alfalfa sprouts, red clover tea, black

cohosh, dong quai, and a host of other herbs which my mind won't track to right

now.

B vitamin deficiency can hurt you in your hair as can low manganese levels.

Maybe your omega3 to omega 6 ratios are outta whack? You really ought to consult

with a doc.

Saw palmetto is good, Wash your hair well & often.

I don't know how long this has been going on but if you wait too long, it is not

reversable.

Best of luck.

Hi Pam,I had the same problem after I was initially recovering from surgery after cancer. Too scared to vacuum the house or wash my hair as I had to face reality - I was losing most of my hair by the handfuls. I did blood tests, but my thyroid markers came up fine. I did however have very cold feet and hands. I started taking Iodine in the form of Lugols. Around 100mg a day and a couple of months later my hair started growing back rather thickly. Up until a few months ago it was weird to put my hair up into a ponytail as I had short bits sticking up in the hair. Another pleasant side effect from the Iodine was that suddenly my very near blond red hair started growing back much darker and closer to my original shade of dark red. I have also started using Kelp as it also has important trace minerals.I also

recently red that a low Ferritin level can be an indicator for hair falling out. I still have a low ferritin level but my hair is staying firmly in my head!!Hope this helps,Eva.--- On Tue, 3/23/10, violetinflorida01 <violetinflorida01 wrote:violetinflorida01 <violetinflorida01 Re: Hair Lossoleander soup Date: Tuesday, March 23, 2010, 9:14 AM

I am trying an all natural product called HGF (hair growth factor) available in europe. A local spray form; you use it twice a day locally.

that is a natural product mainly made of saw palmetto..

best wishes.

There are many reasons for hair loss, thyroid problem, autoimmune disease,

chemotherapy, stress, allergy, to name a few. I hate to say this, but go to an

MD for proper diagnosis. When diagnostic results are out, then start searching

for alternative cure. hehehe.

Dr Gary Null recommend Paba.it seems to work well for him !!

Don't use anymore shampoo ( no need) but just a natural conditioner.

Never use dryer..

Massage gently sometimes ( before going to bed) the scalp with vitamin E or

organic coconut oil.

Take daily dose of vitamin E 400 IU a day

See : http://www.jmbblog.com/2010/01/vitamin-e-grows-hair/

Also take complex of vitamin B, chlorophyll and omega 3

:-)

If you need to use color check the quality at :Skin Deep ( a safety guide to

cosmetics and personal care products)

Pam,

I too lost a lot of hair. Here is my story. After I completed a major detox, I

began to lose hair about two months after the detox. I had no clue why, but it

just started falling out all over in hand fulls. It took me awhile to realize

what was going on and it was not until my employer noticed did I realize it was

a major problem. I did not have a bald spot or anything, just extremely thin

hair. I don't get my hair done at all, but since it was sooooo thin, I decided

to do the unthinkable: perm my hair to give it body. I figured it was already

falling out! That was a good move for me and a bad one. First, the good. The

beautician looked at my scalp and stated that the follicles look healthy so it

was not something caused by scaring or shampoo build up or anything like that.

She also stated that it was natural balding. The bad was now that it has grown

back, my hair is frizzy due to what is left of the perm. Here is what I

did/tried:

1st- I worked with a Chiropractor and a Doctor and they tested my hormones (the

wrong way but at least they did it). I had/maybe still have an extreme amount of

male hormones. Their solution was give me black cohosh. It did not work and I

felt horrible. My research lead me to thyroid problems although undiagnosed. I

researched iodine and started taking 50 mg of lugols along with other nutrients

for thyroid (selenium, l-tyrosine, and more). It worked, the hair stopped

falling out. Months later, it still was not falling out but it would not grow

back. So I searched more. I found I needed to take an excess of minerals. So I

did and that was the key. I have been on high minerals for close to 6 months

now and if I stop taking massive amounts of minerals for a small length in time,

my hair falls out again. Not as dramatic as before but enough to remind me what

I need to do. I have tried different minerals and the one listed is what worked

best for me.

Here is what I do for minerals:

Body Ecology's Ancient Earth Minerals

A small amount of Sea Weed at least 3 times a week (I put it in my green

smoothies, eat it in the form of nori rolls, or add it to my meals)

1 glass of Apple Cider Vinegar at least 3 times a week

1 glass lemon water at least 3 times a week

Avoid all things that deplete minerals to the best of my abilities(ie Sugar,

pop/soda, etc)(sugar is the hardest in the form of dark chocolate almonds:))

I hope this helps.

Enjoy your journey of healing.
