Guest guest
Not sure if you've seen this one or not. Supposedly very good for the price (as told by someone who owns one and says it is great for wheatgrass juice). Not sure if it is affordable enough for you (me either), but asap, I'm buying it:http://www.naturalzing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=599 My best, Ila - shawn b oleander soup Saturday, March 20, 2010 7:56 AM Questions about wheatgrass I have been trying to find someone with experience with juicing wheatgrass and then I thought, I bet I could find some here. So here is my questions:1-I can not afford a new automatic wheatgrass juicer so I thought to look for one used. I have been unable to find any. So then I found that I could buy one that is manual used or new (mostly new). But then I found too many choices. So now my quest is to find some people with experience using the manual juicers. My questions are what is best and why. What did you like and what you did not like. I realize you will all have a different opinion on them and that is OK. That is why I am here. Thanks in advance.2-My mind was also wondering why I can't just use my Blentec Smoothie Machine for the wheatgrass. I went to the Internet to find out and found no definite answer. The only thing I found was that wheatgrass is hard for us to digest which is why we juice it. The cellulose is too hard for us to digest. So why would breaking it us in the smoothie machine not work too? Has anyone tried this? Anyone have any thoughts on this?I did find a regular cheap juicer at the thrift store and it does not do a very good job and wastes a lot of grass. I hope to finalize my thoughts and buy a machine this weekend as I do need it for my bowl reasons. ThanksAmy---
Guest guest
Amy, You have to extract the juice from the grass (cellulose), otherwise it is very difficult to digest. Centrifugal juicers won't work.... you have to masticate the grass (squeeze it). A blender won't work either because you aren't extracting the juice.. just cutting the grass. A manual extractor works great. Guest guest
Ruth, Do you put in a powder of sorts or do you put in the actual grass? Have you ever had the juice? If you have had the fresh juice, can you give a comparison of how you feel with the fresh juice verses the smoothie? Guest guest
It is the juice which is beneficial. I have a miracle electric juicer and could never (believe it or not) figure out how to make the dang thing work. I chew wheatgrass as often as possible (daily). I take enough stems in my hand to be about the size of a US quarter (one ounce) and chew it like gum. Teeth are meant to masticate as well as juicers. Works fine. I would like to use wheatgrass as an implant, however, and would like to find a decent juicer myownself. My omega catches the grass and clogs or does not get enough juice out to make it worth the while. No mater what anyone says, I do not believe the Vitamix or Blendtec does the job. They don't crush. Unless they can break down the cellular structure (would need to be awfully small bits) I think, like when you sit on grass, all you get is stain and grass bits in the container. When I am done chewing, all which is left of the wheatgrass are very pale green fibers. I'd be interested in selling the electric miracle, if you like. I don't actually know if I have enough arm power to crank a hand juicer. Cheers & good luck. Guest guest
Kathy, I have never thought about just chewing it. I suppose that would take some concentration. My husband would love to do that. I am missing 1 molar so that would be a little difficult for me. As for a implant, I have done enemas using wheatgrass juice from NOW. It was great, I had so much energy and loved it. As to why I stopped, I am not sure but all this talk has got me wanting to do it again. Now I remember why I stopped, because I used a powder, it clumped on me and was not a good mess. I did not realize at the time to blend it before I used it. That will work well and I can't wait to try it. As for the machine you have to sell, I would consider it if it were a little more of what I was looking for. I have a cheap juicer currently and I assume since it is a $8.00 thrift store buy, it won't last to long juicing two times a day for a family of 5 (plus anyone else who happens to be around). So, when that day comes, I would like to have bought a juicer that I can fall back on if need be. When I researched the one you have, they said it would only juice soft fruit. Thank you so much for you consideration. Thanks Amy oleander soup , " geekling " <geekling wrote: > > It is the juice which is beneficial. Guest guest
Lol, Amy; Funny you should mention your molar. I am missing one on my bottom right side. I just chew on the other side. and if the grasss goes into the hole, I just keep chewing until I am satisfied. Just pretend it is gum. I wish I vould find a juicer for the implants. It never occured to me to use the powder (so inferior!) but something is better than nothing, yes? I will get over my frugality (I grow my own wheatgrass) and pop for the powder. Great minds often assist each other. Cheers Kathy K oleander soup , " shawn b " <salenbailey wrote: > > Kathy, > I have never thought about just chewing it. Guest guest
Hello there According to Brian Clement of the Hippocrates Institute and based on scientific research most of the nutritients in green smoothies are oxidized when using a blender like vitamix or blendtec.Furthermore it is unlikely that the wheatgrass will break down completely so you are going to get tiny pieces of grass and not the juice. You need the juice to absorb what ever it is in the grass.Chewing it will work but how much and for how long can you chew it . You need a proper juicer to really experience the health benefits of wheatgrass . Guest guest
I put in the actual grass, which I cut off of a square I buy at the health food store. I had a shot of wheatgrass/pineapple juice once at Whole Foods, and it is DELISH!!! I’m not extremely fond of the wheat grass flavor, and I can taste the wheat grass in my smoothie. But not too bad. I tried it in my Omega 5000 juicer and it just doesn’t seem to produce much juice. But the Vita-Mix seems to pulverize it quite well, at least when mixed with other greens. I suppose you could do wheat grass alone in water and then strain out the pulp. But it would be diluted. oleander soup oleander soup On Behalf Of shawn b Saturday, March 20, 2010 8:43 PM oleander soup Re: Questions about wheatgrass Ruth, Do you put in a powder of sorts or do you put in the actual grass? Guest guest
Hi folks,Regarding juicers, the typical high speed centrifical juciers are great for most fruit and hard veggies (carrots) and extremely wasteful for the green leafy ones (including wheat or barley grass). Two choices for leafy stuff --- hand operated or powered "masticating" juicers. The single auger ones are less expensive, and Omega 8003 seems a fine choice for wheatgrass, leafy greens, and will do carrots etc., but slower with them. New types of juicers have been developed, and it's best to do a lot of research, and talk to folks. Some sellers seem pretty ethical and will give you the facts regarding use, efficiency, and yes, ease of cleanup. Absent juicing, you can always do it the old fashioned way --- chew each bite thoroughly, forever....Juicing is well worth the effort; I do not do as much as I should, and will do more as our kale/lettuce begin to grow. Guest guest
I feel a HUGE difference drinking green smoothies everyday! I don't always use wheatgrass though. But I do drink green smoothies everyday. The biggest difference I have noticed besides losing my small gut and looking and feeling better is I have always had a HUGE sweet tooth that was my biggest obstacle in becoming healthy and now for the most part it is gone. When I stop drinking the green smoothies it definitely comes back. But drinking the green smoothies gives me all the nutrition my body was craving and then I don't crave junk food. Guest guest
david, You are in fact getting very little of the wheat grass juice... the vitamix will chop the grass into fine bits, but unless you extract (squeeze) out the juice it will remain in the pieces of grass for the most part. Guest guest
If it pulverizes all the whole grass is there not a downside to intaking so much indigestible fiber? We only have one stomach as opposed to the cows four and I always thought that one of the reasons for using a dedicated wheat grass juicer was to get the maximum from the juice and discard the 'overdose' of indigestible fiber??? Guest guest
Now I sent this Sunday Morning but didn't show up?? So Here it is again; I have been Juicing Wheat Grass for almost a year. Before that I was using Powdered Wheat Grass. I had bought various brands of powder but the Best was Amazing Grass. I still use it if I don't have a fresh tray ready to Harvest. Now for the Fresh Grass, I have been growing 10-20 trays at a time. For a Juicer, I started with a Manual Hand Crank one (Healthy Juicer) and it worked well. I have it still as a Backup. Now we Juice a whole tray at a time so I moved up to an electric Dr. Juice Green Queen Juicer. It was about $139.00 on ebay and it worked Great! Both of these juicer twist the grass up into a Rope that ejects from the end. It's like a wringer effect. My Birds Love it! I had wore out the Auger and housing out mostly by taking the Ropes and wetting them, shredding them and running them though again. This almost doubles the juice output. The parts were covered by warranty but next time they will cost me $69.00 usd. Now what I read from Anne Wigmore (The Wheat Grass Guru) she said the Grass can't be Digested if eaten. We don't have the 3-4 stomachs like a Cow. But I would assume if you Grind it up to small particulates like the Vita-Mix Does, it would be easily Digested. Another Side Effect that Anne mentioned in her book, her hair color restored to the original color! It's been a year and I'm still waiting cause I don't like the color Gray! I've been Blending 1- cup of ice, 1-cup of Alkalized water, 3-6 oz of Wheat Grass Juice (Depending on the Health of the Tray) along with a cup of other Juice or a cup of Blueberries along with 1 Banana and 1.5 oz of Brown Flax seed Ground up fine with my Magic Bullet. Makes a great Breakfast smoothie for me & my Wife! After 3 months of this I had my Cholesterol count lowered by 125 points. My energy level is vastly improved. If I miss a smoothie in the morning I'm dragging my self through the day. Well that my Story and I'm Sticking to it!
