No. Not an urban legend... I'm STILL trying to find an update for the

article I read, but as I've forgotten the name of the Maggie AND it's a UK

publication, my chances are slim.

It' wasn't cockers, or I should say ONLY cockers, it was EACH and EVERY type

of spaniel and the story goes that for some odd reason TT affected spaniels

(not ALL spaniels obviously, but enough to concern a lot of people) negatively.

It made them ill and even has killed a few.

I talked to a breeder of Springer Spaniels in Texas right after I read this

article and she said that explained a lot, because she had an older Springer

who became really ill after using a bottle of commercial dog shampoo that

contained TT.j

As I mentioned earlier, what happened with the research after that, I don't

know.

I'll tell you this for free about Tea Tree, there is no way I would use it on

any animal as a routine thing. I would use it(and have done,) in an emergency

situation (my hens that were torn up by my rotten at the time dog. THEN I'll

swear on anything you like, TT saved their lives. No infections AND they all

began laying again. If you know anything about Hens, you'll know they are

delicate birds and will keel over if you look at them cross eyed. Love my girls

though! Can't wait to move and get some more!) and that is it! And it would have

to be a pretty big emergency for me to use neat (as I did on the girls, poured

my bottle all over them! Poor wee mites...).

Hope that helps a bit

Cheers!

I've seen the same thing about tea tree...I want to say it's with cockers,

but I could be wrong...and I don't know if it's one of those 'urban

legends' or if it's true.

I LOVE Kristen Leigh Bell's aromatherapy for animals book... good stuff.

I've always used the oils with our dogs.... avoid 'em like the plague with

the cats...but they seem effective and safe for the canines.

  • 6 years later...

In my book it says to use 4 drops Rosemary, 2 drops lavender, 3 drops ginger in

2 TBLS of oil for dogs to massage them.

Any advice on this for a 100 pd dog with arthritis and hip issues.

thanks Colleen
