Guest guest
I eat a really healthy balanced organic diet with plenty of fluids (water), but I have my suspicions that I am not absorbing nutrients from the food as my skin is extremely dry and my nails are brittle and I lack energy. Does anyone have any solutions or advice to enable my body to absorb the nutrients from the healthy food I am eating? Guest guest
Those symptoms could be caused by many things. Do you eat enough healthy fats? Is your thyroid okay? Do you eat a lot of soy? Soy suppresses the thyroid (and does other nasty things to our body biochemistry). Have you checked for candida overgrowth? What about your body pH - is it too acidic? If it is simply that you aren't getting enough healthy fats (coconut oil does wonders for skin, hair, thyroid support and much more), that would be an easy fix. If that's not it, your biochemistry could be out of whack. Best to check your pH first. If you're too acidic, then your enzymes won't be functioning properly and you won't be benefiting much from the healthy food. And since you say you are eating well, perhaps candida could be the culprit (candida really drives down our pH levels). An acidic body also causes our red blood cells to stick together like rolls of coins. This makes it very difficult to get blood out to your tiny capillaries - making your body oxygen deprived and thus tired all of the time. A good colon cleanse can also help poor digestion. When we don't take proper care of our colon, fecal material can get stuck to the lining of the intestines. Over time so much builds up that it makes it incredibly difficult for nutrients to get into our bloodstream. Check out my site for more info on all of the above. Guest guest
I'm just guessing and without testing it's impossible to know exactly what's going on but you may have heavy metals that are blocking mineral absorption. Lead will sit on calcium receptors, mercury on iron, arsenic on zinc, etc. To a certain extent tissue salts are helpful but removing heavy metals from the body would likely benefit you most. Guest guest
Hi Leone, I drink 6 - 8 glasses of water a day with a few grains of himalayan salt added to it. Guest guest
Thank you Melissa for your message. Do you have an easy at home way of testing your p.h? I have those strips that you can test water. Do you test your saliva or your urine? I don't eat alot of soy...only organic soysauce in some meals. I will check out your site too. Guest guest
Hi Diana, I asked because I often wonder if people actually drink too much water therefore diluting much needed electrolytes. Have you looked at silica? Even though we eat a healthy diet our soils are often depleted of vital nutrients such as selenium in NZ. LSA, linseed, sunflower and almond, available in supermarkets definitely helped with my aches and pains and benefited my hair and nails as well. Guest guest
Hi Lisa, Coconut oil is an excellent moisturizer for the skin (and hair too). But our good health depends on eating enough healthy fats too. See some of the benefits of fat here: http://www.how-to-boost-your-immune-system.com/benefits-of-fat.html Coconut oil is an incredibly healthy fat - saturated fats are NOT bad for us - Men's Health did a great job of debunking that in this article: http://www.menshealth.com/cda/article.do?site=MensHealth & channel=health & category\ \%20=heart.disease & conitem=a03ddd2eaab85110VgnVCM10000013281eac____ And of course the omega 3 fatty acids from fish, fish oil, flax, and flaxseed oil are also excellent. Olive oil (an omega 9 fat) is a good choice too, although our body can make enough omega 9 fats on its own - so it isn't considered essential. Still, it plays a supporting role in keeping our immune system and overall health strong. Examples of unhealthy fats would be of course trans fats - everyone knows about these by now. But what most people don't know is that REFINED polyunsaturated vegetable oils are terrible for our health. They suppress the immune system, prematurely age us, cause excess inflammation, high blood pressure, high cholestrol, heart disease and more. Unrefined vegetable oils are okay as long as they are kept in a cold, dark place and not heated before consumption (use them for salad dressings, etc). For more info on fats check out this section of my site: http://www.how-to-boost-your-immune-system.com/fat-facts.html Wishing you the best of health. Guest guest
Hi Diana, The pH strips used for water will not work. You need strips specifically made for testing urine and/or saliva. You can generally find them at health food stores, pharmacies, and of course online. Just make sure you get ones with the proper range - generally around 4.5 - 9.0. I would recommend the strips as opposed to the pH paper - which can be difficult to use and read. For info on how and when to test and what the results mean, see this page: http://www.how-to-boost-your-immune-system.com/pH-strips.html Wishing you the best of health. Guest guest
I believe results will/can happen when applying coconut oil to the skin b/c of the power of 'spirit medicine' and the energetic healing and homeopathic effects by just having it near you, touching you, your intentions, your thoughts. With that said tho, my understanding is that applying coconut oil to the skin will NOT - biochemically - give you its anti-bacterial/fungal/microbial benefits b/c its medium-chain fatty acids (lauric and caprylic) need to be converted to mono acids through the digestive process. Topically, what is absorbed through the skin, into the lymph, then the blood, to the liver, to the digestive tract is the long way 'home' if the goal is to support the health of the GI. Guest guest
Thanks for your messages. I have LSA everday including Brasil Nuts for Selenium. Thats the fustrating thing for me. I am really healthy. I eat an almost perfect diet. I don't drink alchohol, I don't smoke, I'm not stressed. I wondered whether its perhaps a leaky gut or something. Do you think perhaps Aloe Vera drinks or Slippery elm powder may help heal it with some probiotics on top? I also heard that Glutamine powder is good for healing the stomach etc? My tongue is also in a bit of a mess, described by doctors as " Geographic Tongue " . Guest guest
Hi Diana, my instinct says maybe you have developed an allergy to some food or supplement. You could try to eliminate different foods or maybe try lecithin, this would give you a gentle clean out. Leone
