days and it rots and putrefies in there. Humans were not meant to eat meat,

that's why we have such a long digestive system - unlike carnivores who have a

very short intestinal tract where meat goes through quickly.

Hi Carol.

I'm very interested in this topic, ie the length of digestive systems

determining which types of food are best digested. Do you have any sources for

your statement?

I'm a bit puzzled because, from my very very basic knowledge, I somehow got the

idea that since Australopithecas came down from the trees (around 5 million

years ago) the hominids have consistently eaten a diet of primarily fruits,

nuts, seeds and vegetables with small amounts of meat -- that is until 10,000

years ago when they ceased being hunter-gatherers and started to farm and eat

cereals and things started to go very wrong. It seems to me that this idea is

consistent with out teeth - lots of molars primarily for grinding fruits, nuts,

seeds and vegetables, but with small canines to help with occasional meat.

Many thanks for anything you can add :)

With all best wishes

Derek Haines
