Guest guest
My great-grandson who is four months old just had some seizures. He had five seizures, an hour apart and they took him to the hospital where they were told there was nothing wrong with him. He was put on Dilantin and another anti-seizure medicine. Guest guest
Was it due to fever? Children can go into convulsions rather easily. You don't want him on dilantin though. Guest guest
I have read that it could be the shots/vaccines and I have also read that it could be due to the way the doctor pulls on the little head stretching and turning the neck as they are being born. See a chiropractor in a hurry. See one that specializes in birth trauma. My daughter was having seizures and I took her to so many specialist that said there was nothing wrong with her. She has been seeing a chiropractor for about a year or two now and has not had a seizure at all while in his care. That is so scary. I know how they must feel. When they go to the hospital there is a blood test I have been told they can do and it counts something to tell you it was a seizure. Please let me know how it goes. Guest guest
Hi Margi, Babies do suffer from seizures and seems to be related to brain growth and usually it goes away as the baby's brain matures. In the meantime it is important to protect the brain from the hipoxia that results upon sustaining a seizure. As much as we hate to be on meds and a small baby in particular, Dilantin is the least harmful of all the antiepileptic meds. 1/ Make sure he is getting organic fruits and vegetables daily to ensure adecuate intake of magnesium. 2/ Make sure he is breathing well and his environment well ventilated and there is no repsiratory issues, (asthma, allergies, etc) The deeper he breaths the better from his/her brain's development. Move his arms and legs to stimulate deep breathing as often as you can. Oxygenation is the enemy of epilepsy. Moving around is the best way to oxigenate. 3/ Try Flower Bach remedies in tiny amounts like Rescue Remedy ( one drop in food) and increase as he/she ages. 4/ eliminate sources of allergies (read about food sensitivies and apply) and carpets, insecticides, fungus, etc. Food, however, is the principal contributor. 5/ Finally you can reduce the Dilantin dose LITTLE BY LITTLE until you get a n optimized amount for his condition. To reduce cut down weekly one dose (for instance if two takes a day, the first week withhold one dose from Monday, the following week one dose from Thrusday, the following week one dose from Wednesday and so on until the seizures return. a t that point go back to the last dose or walk dose back until seizures go away. Of course always do this with your MD's knowledge. Guest guest
Had this baby just had his shots recently? That would be my first guess, and would mean toxicity to me. Guest guest
There is either some brain damage, possibly from mercury toxicity, or perhaps from something he is allergic to. I would start giving him 500-1000 mg of vitamin C powder in orange juice every day. If it is metal toxicity, that should gradually solve it. At a year old or more, consider starting the SMR Plus CD package. It works well with both allergies and epilepsy. I would expect the vitamin C will most probably solve the problem. -- Phil Bate PhD http://drbate.com - Free Alternate Health Advice Neuroliminal Training (NT) helps solve mental problems without drugs at low cost. Guest guest
Did he just have any vaccinations, or a stress after a previous history of vaccinations? That could be the cause. There are natural methods to help the seizures and not end up on the meds long-term. Liz , Margi <Margi wrote: > > My great-grandson who is four months old just had some seizures. Guest guest
Margi, A four month old should definitely not have seizures of any kind, this is very concerning. The parents should take the child to an MD pediatrician who practices Functional Medicine (ie. more nutritionally based than chemically based). There is a website that lists the docs, and hopefully there is one in their area. If they can't find an someone in that vein, they should seek a pediatrician anyhow, and i would strongly suggest doing it immediately. I would not use any folk medicine procedures with a four month old and i practice holistic medicine, if this baby came into my clinic i would immediately refer them to someone who has the knowledge and expertise. If i can be of any help, please don't hesitate to email me off-list. Guest guest
Margi, I had seizures from an infant until I was around 8yrs old. I was diagnosed with epilepsy, and was also put on Dilantin. However I had a pediatric neurologist and that is the only doctor with the knowledge and expertise to diagnose such a serious problem. Please urge the parents to find a qualified neurologist to care for this baby. If the child is not properly cared for the baby could die. With proper care the baby could grow to have a great and " normal " life. By the way Dilantin is a nasty drug with long term side effects and should not be taken lightly.
