This just never ends--- I went to the doctor yesterday who gave me a Z-pack to

clear up this eustachian tube problem along with medrol pack.

Since my vitamin D levels are at 13 and the lowest of the norms are 29.9, he

gave me a prescription 55iu of vitamin D which I am to take for 12 weeks once a

week.

I understand that the vitamin D in prescription form is the synthetic form D2

not D3.

The vitamins which I take have 1000iu of D3 and I also have a D3 1000iu

supplement.

My question is --Should I continue taking all of this vitamin D or cut back on

the extra supplement and just continue to take the vitamin supplement once a

day? I do not want to get too much vitamin D but I also need to bring the

levels up.

I would also like to know if the lack of vitamin d has been some contribution to

all these health issues which I have been having for so many years?

I always look at the web-sites and every site tells you something different.

Any one out there who is able to help me? Any suggestions?

I have been so sick for sometime that I have no idea what it is like to have a

good night sleep and not feel up sick from this motion sickness and faint

feeling. How long will it take to start feeling better again?

Thanks so much !!!!

Your should check your prescription - ask the pharmacist - my MIL received

Vitamin D3 with a prescription. It was 50,000IU. She also took hers one

time per week. If this prescription bring your Vitamin D levels higher, you

will need to take at least 5,000iu or more per day to keep the level up.

You will not feel better until you get your Vitamin D level up to 50 or

higher. You also need sun light on your skin. Here's a good site to read

up on Vitamin D3. You are going to have to high dose Vitamin D3 to get your

levels up. 2,000iu are not doing you any good - you may want to buy some

liquid vitamin D3 drops - maybe your body would utilize that form better.

You definitely want the D3 form and at least 5,000iu a day for several weeks to

bring your D3 levels up to at least 30....but preferably 50.

You can also sit in the sun for at least 30 minutes each day to help bring up

your D levels.

Your Dr. is naive to think that 55iu in a synthetic form will do any good at

all. Most Dr's just don't understand the human body's needs and can do you more

harm than good. That's why most people are D3 deficient to begin with.

It pays to do your own research before following your Dr's orders.

It's hard to say with the information you gave. Vitamin D supplements can be

necessary for the elderly, dark-complexioned people, low-fat dieters,

vegetarians, those that stay indoors all the time, the chronically ill, and

others.

Since this vitamin functions as a hormone, too much (as too little) can cause

health problems.

It's important to note that too much D3 will increase the concentration of

calcium in the blood, especially if one isn't taking enough magnesium. That

excess calcium can encourage plaque formation in the arteries.

Generally speaking, one can get as much of the vitamin as needed by sitting

outside with some skin exposed for 15-20 minutes a day. The skin will

manufacture what it needs when given direct exposure to the sun.

Best regards,

Melissa
