Guest guest
I have been on & off of synthroid for over 15 years. The doctor keeps putting me on higher doses which give me the worst heart palpitations and all other types of issues that it is impossible to continue with this drug. I called my doctor 2 weeks ago and gave her a description of all my symptoms and asked her if there was anything which I can do since I can not remain on this dosage nor this drug. She in turn--told me that my issues were not with the drug and that my issues were with my head--that there was nothing which she could do for me and to go ahead and get off of the drug. I have been weening myself off of this drug--again--and have been having the worst withdrawal symptoms I have ever had. Has any one else had any issues with this drug? Can any one suggest an alternative to dealing with the issues mentioned . Thanks so much
Guest guest
Hi, The palpitations and other symptoms you have ARE NOT IN YOUR HEAD! They are real and caused by the synthroid. I had the same experience. I went to Dr. that practiced alternative medicine and she did more extensive bloodwork for the thyroid, both T3 and T4.....I now take Armour Thyroid (hypothyroidism)which is more natural and have absolutely no symptoms... I might add, thyroid issues, spiritually, have to do with not speaking out, feeling like you don't have a voice and not being connected emotionally. You might want to start with Louise Hay's book " You Can Heal Your Body " ...and go on from there. I have done Network Chiropractic (working on your nervous system, no cracking), reflexology, massage, vibrational healing, all to make the ride through old age, pleasant, enjoyable, pain/medication/baggage free....IT IS POSSIBLE! Drs. don't tell us with the right body, mind, spirit connections/work..we don't have to live on thyroid meds for the rest of our lives. Good luck to you...and feel better. Guest guest
Hi Izabel, I suggest that you contact another physician and get a prescription for Armour thyroid. Then, to save money, try to get it from Canada, as it is much less than from US drug stores. Synthroid is artificial, and The Armour thyroid is actual thyroid from pigs, so it less likely to be allergic. You can learn more about self-testing of your thyroid on my web site at: http://drbate.com. Go to that site, scroll down on the Navigation area on the left to the button marked thyroid. Click on that. There is a lot of free info on that website about all types of alternate health. Next, there is a better way to withdraw from any drug, and your MD should have given you more advice. Your body has adjusted to the drugs, and withdrawal can be very painful, as you seem to have found out. The method I use is to cut meds in half and take that for a week. If any withdrawal symptoms persist, then go back to 3/4's of a dose, or even lower (some people have to go to only 90%), and stay on that dose until symptoms disappear, then cut the same amount again. In most cases, this will result in only 3-4 weeks of mild withdrawal. In some very hard cases, it can result in weeks or even months of slow withdrawal. We are all different and INDIVIDUAL. Guest guest
Hi, Synthroid is T4 and the body has to convert it tto T3 which is the available form. Some people have problem effecting this conversion. Try the T4/T3 combination, or T3 alone ( drugs) or try the natural porcine-extracted thy rosin.Your doc can prescribe it for you. If you take enough iodine, tyrosine copper and selenium you may be able to produce enough thyroxine by yourself. Sorry about my word processor. Guest guest
I can't advise you about getting off Synthroid, but if you need thyroid, take Armour Thyroid. If your doctor won't prescribe it, find a doctor who is a member of ACAM. See http://www.acam.org. Guest guest
Izabel5740, Please heed Linda's advice as soon as you can. Synthroid is what I refer to as Syncrap! I was on it for 15 years and now have a fried adrenal system and a thyroid that doesn't know which way it wants to go. Armour has just reformulated and made a few changes but it's still far better than anything created in a chemical lab. Armour, Nautre-throid, Westthroid are natural desiccated pork and certainly much healthier for you. I suggest you read Stop The Thyroid Madness or visit the web site www.stopthethyroidmadness.com and read every link so you are completely informed regarding the links between adrenal and thyroid and how MD's have totally screwed with our health by treating TSH lab results only. In support of the Stop The Thyroid Madness book and site there is a group on that supports all of us with thyroid problems and choose to follow the STTM program. Guest guest
GM Izabel, The reason why D's use three thyroid tests (T3, T4, and T7) is simply because none of them are really accurate. The basal temperature test is more accurate, but it depends on the patient actually doing something, and MD ever trusts a patient that much. Your MD is obsolete. Armour thyroid is much better than synthroid, and has been for years. You are actually allergic to something in the synthroid mix. It is not natural thyroid material, but a chemical drug that tries to duplicate the natural. If you use the Broda Barnes temperature method of testing, as explained on my web page, you can monitor your own dosage very well. Get away from that MD. Her lack of knowledge may kill you. If you are overweight, and you are obviously stressed, consider my new Lose Weight neuroliminal CD package. Not only will you lose weight slowly and safely, but you will sleep and feel better . Guest guest
Everyone is right, what you are going through are not in your head, I have been on Synthroid for years and a few months ago was having the same problems, my dosage was wrong, once we got it adjusted it went away. My husband is on the Armor thyroid and has never had these problems. H has taken the same dose for almost 5 years and never had to change either, where I have to change dosages about twice a year. Makes me want to change medication. Robin
