Guest guest
Yes, it works that works for me as well. Do find myself sometimes in the morning almost dropping off the end of the bed, but at least it stops the acid chewing away overnight. I have no idea what the percentages are. I mean, how often it is caused by bad digestion, and how often by structural weakness. Or a bit of both. Guest guest
My husband has the same problem, so bad that it's resulted in ulcers. On a recent trip to our local natural foods market, I was discussing his problem with the owner. She gave me a bottle of probiotic capsules for him. They're called " Suprema Dophilus " and they contain a variety of lactobilli, bifidobacterium, enterococcus and strptococcus enzymes. They are refrigerated. The way she explained it to me was that the drug companies like to keep you slightly sick so you depend on their product. He's also on Aciphex, and she said it destroys the bacteria that causes the ulcers (and the reflux) but it also destroys the GOOD bacteria your digestive system needs in order to function properly. She told me to give him these capsules, and take them IN ADDITION to his medication, because it'll help the Aciphex to work better. But over time, he should increase his dose of the probiotic capsules and decrease his meds. He's already done that, and he's doing great. We've also started using raw dairy products because they contain the same 'good' bacteria. He has no more headaches, and very little pain anymore. He just feels much better all over. Hope this helps, and I wish you luck! Jen
Guest guest
It's all in the diet. If you want to read more about all the digestive ills that are caused by an improper diet read, " Gut Solutions " by Brenda Watson, ND & Leonard Smith, MD. A fabulous read that will open your eyes to the human digestive system and how it reacts to the foods we eat. A little info from the book, did you know that more money is spent in the US on digestive problems ($100 billion annually) than on computers, higher education and learning ($82 billion); automobiles ($65 billion); vacations ($10 billion); even the diet industry ($33 billion). It does cover things like " Acid Reflux " , GERD, Diverticulitus, Barrett's Esophagus, Esophagitis, Heartburn, Hiatal Hernia, Gas, Gluten Sensitivity, Peptic Ulcers, IBS, Crohn's, Candidiasis, Constipation ...... Gall stones, Pancreatitis .... Well written, easy to comprehend (very layman friendly) and an eye opener that will have you reassessing what goes in your mouth. ....jenn www.animalwellness.ca Toronto (Canada) 416.840.4485 Fran Good morning everyone, I have a question on acid reflux. Guest guest
I had acid reflux for years - didn't realise what it was. When I eventually managed to make the connection with wheat, and stopped eating wheat completely, it stopped. And strangely, my angina stopped too. Giving babies carbohydrates so young in life is bound to cause them problems, don't you think ? We just didn't evolve to eat carbs - especially grains, in any quantities whatsoever. , " Jen Hetrick " <rednecgrl71 wrote: > > My husband has the same problem, so bad that it's resulted in ulcers. Guest guest
In conjunction with the other answer you received about probiotics, this appies to newborns as well. So many babies are now being born via c-section and this can result in less good bacteria in their guts. Babies naturally swallow alot of beneficial bacteria on their way out of the birth cancal, so c-section babies do not get this. having the mom put probiotic powder on her nipples when she nurses so the baby get some. Since you want to research this, you could also look at rates of reflux as connected to when they started vaccinating babies at 24 hours of birth. I don't know if the two are connected but it would be an interesting thing to explore. Let us know what you find out! , " Fran " <frannyjo wrote: > > Good morning everyone, > I have a question on acid reflux. Guest guest
> Since you want to research this, you could also look at rates of > reflux as connected to when they started vaccinating babies at 24 > hours of birth. I don't know if the two are connected but it would be I did not know they vaccinated babies 24-hours after birth. Which vaccines are they giving at this age?? Back in the day (that is, when I had my child in 1969), vomiting was considered just a normal thing unless it was projectile, in which case they tested for pyloric stenosis. One of my grandsons had colic and vomited a lot (breast fed) and they treated him for " acid reflux " . I was appalled. However, a year or so later, my daughter-in-law was diagnosed with celiac disease and now I wonder if that was the cause of the baby's problems. She is due to deliver her second child in January so it will be interesting to see what transpires with regard to reflux etc. since now she is following a gluten free diet. Younger moms please comment. I am out of the loop. Linda Michaels Gambier, Ohio

Guest guest
I'll try the HCL/betaine idea you've mentioned here, one more time. But I have to admit, that a large glass of celery jice has a remarkable ability to eliminate, for me, the painful sensation that accompanies an " over acid " stomach, whatever actually causes it. I would recommend you try it, and see if it doesn't have the same effect for you. Make it fresh, and drink it slowly. jp - mkathryn59 Thursday, October 11, 2007 8:17 PM acid reflux Acid indigestion and acid reflux is not caused by an over acid stomach but the lack of the Hydrochloric acid that is supposed to be there. What you need is to get some HCL/betine at the health food store and take it with all of your meals. Start with what the label says take and increase it as the need arises, increase til the acid is all gone. It works, I have used it and know this to be true. Guest guest
If you are familiar with Dr Tungs method try needling the point Menjin. It is about 1 to 1 1/2 cun proximal to ST 43, there will be an ashi sensation at the point. It will in a very short period of time relieve the bloated feeling. Let me know how it goes. Guest guest
Interestingly, this point (Menjin) is located where St 43 (or very close to it) is in the Great Compendium, odd that it is denoted as proximal in current texts. If one looks at junction points in Morant's " Chinese Acupuncture " , such as LI 4 it appears that they are closer to the junction of the bones in comparison to modern texts as well. Also, it this is one of the points in Tung's system that is only to be used on unilaterally, but i don't remember the Great Compendium stating this protocol. Guest guest
I have had good success with acupuncture for chronic acid reflux. I thread down the Ren line from Ren 15 to Ren 9. I also add several Kidney points from Kid 22 to 16 and several Stomach points from St 20 to 25. You don't have to use all the points, but the idea is to descend the Qi. Needle fairly deep angling down the torso and get a good da Qi sensation on each needle. Also used St-36, Sp-6, Liv-3 and GB-40. If this technique will work your patient should notice improvement in 3 - 5 treatments. If not it isn't likely to be effective for them. I have worked with a patient that could never sleep flat and felt acid reflux after eating or drinking anything. He had had this problem off and on most of his adult life. He didn't take any herbs and had already tried several over the counter and prescription drugs to try and control it. Nothing worked but the acupuncture. Last I heard (months after the course of treatments) he is still doing well with the symptoms significantly improved. Christopher Vedeler L.Ac. Guest guest
Can anyone here suggest some good options for treating acid reflux? I already take ACV daily, also a good probiotic as well as Natural Yoghurt. Some days it isn't too bad at all but other days it gets quite bad. I do find that if I drink lots of water when I have a " bad " day it seems to help a fair bit. I was taking Acimax medication for it but weaned myself off it on the advice of my Naturopath because it was further destroying my digestive system. I don't want to go back onto it. I will be travelling up to the Coast in a few days ( I live in Tasmania Australia) so will be able to purchase whatever I need then, hopefully. I also intend to talk to my Naturopath again soon to see if she can recommend a " plan of action " for me. thanks in advance Lyndall
