Guest guest
My dad is going through major health issues, and it's been tough to find anything that works. Dad had heart surgery about five years ago, and it really was hard on his body, mind, and spirit. He's now having extreme joint pain, as well as difficulties with cognition. Homeopathy was of little help, and the practitioners I've spoken to said that it's a real " catch 22 " to work with him because some of the medications he takes are ones he needs, but they're also part of the problem. Herbs and vitamin supplements have proven problematic because they can change his blood consistency, leaving him prone to bleeding. I'm putting this out here with the hope that the members will be open to brainstorming about this rather difficult case. Tom
Guest guest
Tom, I'm just mentioning some items I've read over time, no actual experience in using them. These have to do with joints, heart and mind. Cherry juice regarding joint pain, arthritis.... I've read tart and black juices. Pomegranate for heart, arteries.... Here's one quick link: http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2007/may2007_report_pomegranate_01.htm Dementia - B vitamins Just some things that came quickly to mind, Chris in NC , " Tom " <reflexology wrote: > > My dad is going through major health issues, and it's been tough to find anything that works. > > Dad had heart surgery about five years ago, and it really was hard on his body, mind, and spirit. Guest guest
Tom, I've just noticed your para about blood consistency. It rather sounds as if he is on aspirin or warfarin, and if so GET HIM OFF IT! A recent What Doctors Don't Tell You publication features the following scientific paper, BMJ, 2008; 337: a1840, which was a double blind placebo trial, the conclusions of which were: " The drug offered no special protection. In all, 116 patients in the aspirin group and 117 of those in the no-aspirin group went on to suffer heart problems. What's worse, there were more deaths from heart disease recorded among the aspirin-takers: 43 patients in the aspirin group died compared with 35 in the no-aspirin group. " The size of the study was 1276 patients. When you are free of these scam " blood thinning medications " , the road is open to use herbals and supplements. Even if you can't get him off them, there's Coenzyme Q-10 which in a book published 1996 is described as having " been prescribed to more than 40 million heart patients worldwide, and is approved in Japan and Europe for the treatment of congestive heart failure. " It has a molecular structure very similar to vitamin k which aids blood clotting, so you certainly won't have the same problems as with other herbals. I know from personal experience, it's better than vitamin k. It is often sold in an olive oil base, but this is not good if you want to avoid thinning the blood. So Higher Nature's solution is to increase the bio-availability not by supplying it in an oil base but by pre-digesting it in yeast, and then killing the yeast. New Chapter does a similar thing but with probiotics. Coenzyme Q-10 (Ubiquinone) is converted into Ubitol in the body, and you can buy it in this form now, which gets round the conversion problem which older people often have. www.iherb.com is a good place to buy these things. It is currently being researched for use in heart patients; alzheimer's; and the symptoms of Parkinson's Disease. There is a great deal more that could be said but I'll wait to see if you are interested in what I have written so far. Feel free to mail me directly.
