getting worms/parasites from housepets???

I'm wondering can people get worms/parasites or whatever from

housepets, like cats or dogs. My kitty has worms, not sure what kind

for sure, maybe tapeworms. ICK!!! I love my kitty but I can't stand

this. Seems she's constantly getting them. She goes outside and

hunts. I can't keep her inside. I don't want my 21 month old to get

sick from this or even any of us.

 

Also, how do we tell for sure if we did get them?
