Recommended correspondence schools?

I am currently taking a year long leave of absence from my job as a

molecular biologist to stay home with my two children (8 months and 6

yrs.). I have been interested in herbalism for the last 7 years (a

TON of reading and growing), own a small home business selling

medicinal salves & handcrafted soap and am now ready to take the

plunge and start my master herbalist training.

Unfortunately here in St. Louis, we do not have any schools with such

degrees or training and as a result I am going to apply for

correspondence courses.

One of the schools I am looking at is the Australasian School of

Health Sciences. They seem to have an excellent Master Herbalist

certification and also the school appears to have good credentials

and certification. I am curious what others here on this board have

to say about distance learning programs and master herbalist

certification via correspondence courses.

Your opinions are valued.

I thank you

Jenn

Jenn, I don't know anything about the school you are looking up,

however, I am halfway through my MH degree with Trinity School of

Natuarl Health, (www.trinityschool.org). I am very pleased with the

ciriculum and feel that the books they have assigned are VERY good.

I know that as I compare what I am learning with things that are

recommended on this list by Doc and others, my learning is right in

line with what is happening here. The one thing that I do wish they

had was a student message board for current students to network with

one another on. That, however, is how I found this list. I was

looking for a way to network with other herbalists. Any school

experience whether classroom instruction or coorespondence course,

is only worth what you put into it.

Good luck with your studies!

Elaine

Oh Jenn, that sounds wonderful!

If I had the opportunity you do, I would probably go with the Master

Herbalist course from the School of Natural Healing. Info here:

http://www.snh.cc/master_herbalist.htm. I've heard good things about it

on the list.

Best,

Kelli

Hi Jenn,

I'm also looking at the Australasian School for their Holistic Health program. I'm just about ready to take the plunge as the course starts in Feb.

I've researched both Dr. Clayton's & Dr. Christopher's programs. I think Clayton's is a little more advanced than Christophers (my opinion). Australasian is licensed by the state of OR & seems to have a very good program. Neither Clayton's or Christopher's is licensed.

I'm a little hesitant to spend such an enormous amount of money on a school that I can't see hence my procrastination. The course I want to take runs about $4500.00 + one elective which could run about $2-4,000.00

Do you have any info. about them neg/pos that you might share?

Michele

***HI Michelle! Well how bout that? I have an interview on Tuesday

with an admissions advisor to discuss my future plans. I enrolled in

the Natural Health 201...Holistic Nutrition, Bodycare and Herbalism

course. It is the first course in the Holistic Health Practice

diploma program. Within that program, I plan on going towards the

Master Herbalist.***

***I have researched Clayton and Dr. Christopher's programs as well.

I was leaning towards Clayton college, but then I remembered about

the Australasian college ( I researched it years ago) and looked

towards that. I too liked that it is licensed & fully accredited & it

actually seems right up my alley. I have a friend taking the Master

Herbalist in the Dr. Christopher program and she likes it. It seems

to me from what I have read, that the Australasian classes seem to

have a good scientific slant. I can't wait to take the class (it

isn't taught yet) Holistic pathology and protocols. ***

***I agree. That is why I only signed up for the NAT 201 class first

to make sure it is *me*. I'm talking with an admissions advisor

tuesday to see if I take this class and decide to continue towards

the Holistic Health Practice diploma if the $$ I pay will be credited

towards the entire program fee (like 4K) The program initially

includes this class. I'm just hesitant as well. Its scary. That is

why I asked here if anyone has taken courses from this college!***

Dear Chele,

I'd recommend Doc Christopher's school.

It is not an easy route but the best that I know of.

Your licenced schools at this time are mostly MD Wannabee organizations.

Love,

Doc
