Guest guest
Hi Candy, I'm curious about your sleep apnea -- were you prescribed a c-pap for it? I was diagnosed with sleep apnea (I wake up about every 30 seconds) but I can't sleep with a c-pap, and have come to question the whole " diagnosis " thing. So I'm a very light sleeper and wake a lot, so what? I'm no more like to run amok even though I never sleep well. What are you taking Neurontin for? Just a caution, but this drug has been massively prescribed off-label with no research or even word of mouth showing it helped in many of those off-label uses. And I bet if you could stop taking it you would find out that it is indeed causing unpleasant side effects. (I have taken Neurontin before, and decided that I'd rather have the excruciating pain of trigeminal neuralgia, or kill myself, that deal with all that Neurontin entails.) Janelle --- " C. Guest guest
Hi Candy, I agree with Janelle, like I said I was on Neurontin for MS symptoms (neuropathic pain) when I saw my specialist and she saw the dosage, she was like " what the hell? " Neurontin reaches a plateau point...and it is different for different patience. My neurologist told me that unfortunately some doctors will up the dosage if the initial amount does not " seem " to help....but it reaches a level where raising the amount OR continuing for an extended period of time does not help AND you are more likely to develop side effects. She took me off of it fairly quickly. I have found using massage oils or lotions that have arnica as their MAIN ingredient helped a lot with pins/needles and nerve pain etc. I think I've heard you can take arnica internally also but I've never done that personally so I don't know any details there. OH if you do look for an oil/lotion read the label, very often it will say it has arnica and it really only has 0.5-2% arnica in it. Happy New Year Everyone!!! It takes a bit of getting used to. I too questioned the diagnosis, but I can tell the difference if I sleep with the machine. I feel much more 'normal'. Did you hear about Reggie White? The football player that just died from complications that were in part from having sleep apnea? Very very sad. If you didn't hear, I am sure if you do a google search, you will find the info. The body cannot be functioning fully if you aren't sleeping well....or getting enough oxygen during the night. I don't just wake up....I totally quit breathing during the night. I believe they said that I stopped breathing about 20 or 25 times during a 6 hour period??? I can't remember for sure. (So, about every 15 minutes....??) My husband actually noticed that I quit breathing in my sleep, which is why I went for the testing. Otherwise, I'd never have known about it. On another note..... I am taking Neurontin for the nerve pain that I have from a car accident....that happened almost 2 years ago. I have taken all types of things....and been to physical therapy and such...and had no pain relief whatsoever. I've only been taking the neurontin for 1 month, 3 times per day....300 mg at a time. All of the pain isn't gone, but I am starting to feel better. It's better than nothing. I am not saying that the drug is for everyone....because it certainly isn't. Trust me, if I could find a natural remedy for this, I would take it instead!!!! I have always hated taking any type of prescription medication. I believe that most times it causes more harm than good. However, after suffering this debilitating pain for the last two years, taking the medication seems like the lesser of two evils. I can now walk, and function more normally...when before, I was lucky if I could walk from one end of our home to the other. I can now also sit straight upright without feeling like I have a hot poker jabbing up my spine. Like I said, I am not 100%....but I am getting better. I have researched the Neurontin, and I know that it is used for alot of 'offlabel' ailments. I am sure that it's used way more than it should be. However, I am just grateful that I found something that helps a bit. Hopefully, this isn't too much info....but my sex life has actually gotten better, because it doesn't hurt for me and my husband to have 'relations'. My moods have gotten better, because I am not so edgy from all of the pain. I actually feel like cleaning house most days. LOL So, for me, I feel okay in taking this medication. I may regret it in the long run, however, it's nice being able to be 'me'. My kids are happy to have their mom back, and my husband is glad to have his wife. By the way.....my car accident.....I was hit multiple times by a fully loaded 18-wheeler (The truck and the load weighed right at 80,000 pounds!!). So, I am just happy to be alive. Hope I haven't bored you with all of this! (Probably waaaaay more than you were curious about! LOL) Take care, and I'll talk to ya later.
