Hi!

My son and his girlfriend have 2 kittens about 3 months old. Does

someone know what is the best diet for kittens and cats? I don’t trust

commercial catfood.

Thanks!

Hi Carole,

Cats are naturally carnivorous, so ideally, they should be on an all meat BARF ("Bones and Raw Food") diet. There are many web sites that have info on the BARF diet for cats/dogs. Short of that, look for an all natural cat food that has very few non-meat ingredients. I have not researched this extensively myself, but Doc recommended Flint River Ranch pet food at one point and so I went with it. My cats (3 of them!) do very well on it. I also highly recommend the Total Pet Nutrition formula as a natural flea remedy so you don't have to poison the cute critters with those chemicals normally used.

Best,

Kelli

Hi Carole, You're welcome! :)

I don't see the Total Pet Nutrition formula in the files. Let me talk to Doc and I'll see if I can get it posted. Essentially, as stated before in this group, garlic is a key ingredient to keeping the little blood suckers off your pets.

I don't know anything about cats except that they're naturally carninvores and need even more meat than dogs. But my dog has been raw fed since 7wo....is now 4yo and very healthy. I'd switch those two little kittens to raw just as quickly as possible, though....cats are notoriously difficult to switch when they get older. Start them out on chicken wings.

BTW, we just moved from Philadelphia to south Florida for the winter. We arrived last Thursday....Cedar (our 4yo Golden) jumped out of the car, a gecko ran across her path, and ::plop:: it was gone in a nanosecond! All I saw was the head and front feet as it went down the hatch. She's eaten at least two more since then that I know of. Maybe I won't have to buy food at all.<G>

Thanks! Well, right now I’m just concerned with

good nutrition. Their coats are dry, and one of them has blood in her

stool. And their stools are very loose.
