I'm making the Lower bowel formula and was wondering if there is any

other herb that I could use to replace the Goldenseal root.. It is a

little too costly for me to get right now.. Anyone know of something

else I could use that would work just as good?

Thanks

I don't know if it's AS good, but an herbalist told me I could substitute goldenrod for goldenseal in a mixture I was making long ago.

Not by me it isn't! Oregon Grape Root does not have the antiseptic qualities of Goldenseal. Even though their therapeutic qualities are similar when it comes to their nervine and diuretic properties, the similarities start diverging from that point and they become completely different in their effects created.

When used internally with a focus on the Liver, I'll use the Oregon Grape Root over the far more expensive Goldenseal and which is not hepatically any more potent than the OGR.

But when it comes to sealing an open wound (internally as in an ulcer, or externally as in a serious gash or cut of the skin), I wouldn't dream of using OGR in the place of Goldenseal under any circumstances.

Not similar at all. They're not even close as far as the therapeutic effects created by each is concerned. Just not in the same ball park.

If you can't afford or find the Goldenseal, make your formula without it. It won't have the efficacy of the formula with the Goldenseal in it, but it'll still help far better than doing nothing or using a pharmaceutical.
