Guest guest
Well it is an extract in the sense that the goodness of the herb is leached ( extracted ) out of it BUT it may not the same meaning of extract that is on a standard bottle of herbs at a health foods store . If you are looking at a bottle of herb product at a store and it says it contains " extract of Echinacea " then we are probably looking at a product where only some of the medicinal properties from the Echinacea have been isolated and extracted . You can probably tell that I don't think highly of the above mentioned process !!!....Mary O - " hayfork51 " <hayfork51 <herbal remedies > Friday, November 26, 2004 10:37 AM Herbal Remedies - Re: LOBELIA / - How to make an herb extract? - Does that mean a tincture and an extract are the same thing? Guest guest
So if I have a concoction that requires " Lobelia Extract " , will I get the same (or similar) benefit from the herb if I do my own extracting via the tincture process, as I would if I bought a bottle of " lobelia extract " from the store? thanks. herbal remedies , " Mary Ostrowski " <Odesign1@e...> wrote: > Well it is an extract in the sense that the goodness of the herb is leached > ( extracted ) out of it > - > " hayfork51 " <hayfork51> > <herbal remedies > > Friday, November 26, 2004 10:37 AM > Herbal Remedies - Re: LOBELIA / - How to make an herb extract? > > > > > > - Does that mean a tincture and an extract are the same thing? Guest guest
So if I have a concoction that requires "Lobelia Extract", will I get the same (or similar) benefit from the herb if I do my own extracting via the tincture process, as I would if I bought a bottle of "lobelia extract" from the store? I make all my own tinctures but I couldn't afford to buy Lobelia seeds or Goldenseal herb, so I bought a bottle of each tincture (around $10.00 each) from an organic herb farm. I think it is just as effective as long as it's a potent tincture from a reputable source. I trust my own homemade tinctures and rarely buy ready-made ones, but sometimes it's the only way. I made the Heart Formula for a friend and I could NOT find cactus grandiflorus herb anywhere. I ended up buying a 4 oz. bottle of the tincture from Mountain Rose and pouring it into the Heart Formula. If anyone know where I can buy loose organic cactus grandiflorus please let me know, as I've searched high and low. Gloria
Guest guest
I would think you get more benefit as it's naturally home-made. YOU know exactly what's in it then! love Lisa - hayfork51 herbal remedies Sunday, November 28, 2004 2:24 AM Herbal Remedies - Re: EXTRACT / - How to make an herb extract? Guest guest
I " would think " so too - however, I was asking if there is someone here who actually has knowledge of this, not speculation and guesses .... but thanks for your comment anyway.
