Does " c/s " mean crushed? and is there anything wrong with buying herbs from a

health

food store or a shop that specializes in herbs?

c/s means cut and sifted. I do buy some herbs from my health food

store and they are good but they do not have a big choice of herbs at

least not the ones I need.

you know that is true Debbie, I didn't think of that.. maybe I'll

first look for glass jars before using the plastic containers. I

wish I could find some big glass jar's for a good cheap price.. I

read something not long ago on I think Dr. Clarks site that we

shouldn't even use plastic container to put left over food in or that

that matter any food in because of something in the plastic getting

into our food that is toxic.

I like to re-use my glass ware. That is, instead of throwing away used mayo

jars,

relish, pickle, ANYthing that comes in a glass container - even kitchen herbs

like

oregano and parsley, etc - I'll wash that glass ware and use it for herb storage

instead of chucking it.

> The Dollar General in our area South MS sells 1/2 gallon glass jars for a

$1.00. I use them for goat milk juices food storage etc. They are great they have

diffrent sizes but that is the biggest. I also use Qt canning jars for herbs

with the plastic lids. You buy them separatly.

Both these things have plastic lids but if you dont pack the jar to the lid the

herb or food dont touch the pasltic.

I don't know about you but I check out all the garage sales I can for those kinds of items. I got containers for my sea salt and baking soda that way. I think I paid only a quarter for each. you really don't want to store anything in plastic containers. preferably you can store your herbs in dark glass containers, the next preferable is to store them in brown paper bags, not plastic. herbs do not like plastic :)

Antique shops also have the old ball canning jars some cheap and some not depending on shop etc.

I get my Ball jars (quart size) from WalMart. 12 jars with lids for about 8 bucks. They aren't the ones with the hinges on the side, but they work fine.

I love those half gallon glass jars from Dollar

General. So far, I've only used them in the kitchen.

They hold cornmeal, sugar, rice etc in the house.

I'd be out a fortune if I bought jars for Green Dragon

though. There are Jars and jars and jars of stuff!

No, not all in gallon jars, I too reuse mayonaise and

other jars....

I Store my herbs in the tall canning jars. You can buy a case

fairly inexpensively at just about anywhere.

Things like total nutrition though, i keep in plastic because i

needed a big container and it is not in the container very long, but

i made sure to buy a food grade container (restaurant supply

house). I also put mixes or formulas into plastic containers

temporarily until i can encapsulate them.

For long term storage though i always opt for glass.

You might also consider recycling jars from other food for herb

storage (we use those for storing bulk foods when we bring them home

from the store).

Hi Everyone, today I bought some jars.. I went to Ace hardware and

they had all kinds of Canning jars, screw tops ones and also those

that have the old fashion tops with the rubber and hing. I bought

the 1/2 gallon size with Screw top for $8.99 for 6 jars and also

bought the plastic screw on caps to use on them.. I really wanted the

old fashion kind but they were $14.99 for just one Gallon size jar..

that was just too much to pay.. They even had them in 2 and 4 gallon

size.. I bet those cost a pretty penny.. Anyways, I think that I paid

a good price for them and will be happy with um..

I like all the idea's that have been posted on all the other foods We

can store with these jars and now my wheels are just a turning in My

head on just what I can use them for. Every friday around here there

are yard sales everywhere but I never go and now I think I'll do some

yard sale hopping to see just what kind of jar's I can find.

Hugs

As crazy as it sounds, try a local pizza place. I bought gallon

sizes glass jars for our scout troop. They only charged me .50 each

for them. That is what they get their olive and hot pepper rings in.

I have been looking for other places to buy

canning jars because i now refuse to SHOP WALMART ever again.

I totally understand how you feel. Canning jars are about all I ever buy there anymore. I'll drive out of my way to shop somewhere else. I'm sure K-Mart has canning jars.

Awesome Info thanks! I have been looking for other places to buy

canning jars because i now refuse to SHOP WALMART ever again.

Pier 1 and Cost Plus have the canning jars with the hinged lid, but

I've been using the Bell canning jars more lately since they are

more econimical and i want to standarize our storage. I know you

can get them at some grocery stores or Target or K-mart - i just

like to keep my eyes open for other sources so i can watch for

sales :)

WALMART is now on my " death List " I think they are contributing to

the degredation of mankind all most as much as the govt and the

medicos/pharmies.

Anyway, i will check out K-Mart and Ace soon since i will be needing

some more jars when i order herbs again :o)

thanks
