I have a question about this. I have been researching kidney chemistry and have learned so far that the kidneys are responsible for keeping the PH balance in the blood constant. I have learned that the kidneys actually secrete both acids and bases into the blood, if there is an imbalance of either one. Now it's obvious that in today's society, we eat mostly acid foods. However the kidneys are supposed to correct the PH balance in the blood by putting more alkaline into the blood. If it didn't do this we would die because the blood must remain at an exact PH balance. So, am I right to assume that the only reason you would become too acidic is there's something wrong with your kidneys in the first place?

I have also learned that certain substances are extremely toxic to the kidneys, such as tannic acid (in coffee and tea). These could damage the kidneys, as could certain antibiotics (some of which I was put on by doctors!) These could cause the kidneys to have to create extra mineral salts when there just weren't enough, to balance the acid, and could be damagin to the kidneys. It could start pulling calcium from the teeth, bones, etc. (explanation for cavities, bone loss, etc.)

Obviously the body has to be made much more alkaline in order to get back to normal from so much acid. However, if they ever do get back to normal, wouldn't it be appropriate to eat a combination of acid and alkaline foods at all times to maintain healthy PH balance?

Thanks -

Lane
