Guest guest
Hello, I am new to the group so this question may have been asked before. Any suggestions on how to avoid getting sick? I work at a domestic violence shelter & many of the women are sick (not sure what they've got, but might be cold, flu, bronchitis, etc). I leave in just a few days for a trip to Denver and am worried that before or during my trip I might get sick. Are there any preventative remedies I can do to avoid this? So far I've been taking lots of Vit C, " Airborne " , & drinking lots of hot tea. I really can't afford to get sick right now. Normally when I'm sick I'm " out " for about 10 days, then have a lingering cough for another 10-20 days. So it wipes me out for about a month all together. Guest guest
Total Tonic, recipe below, but found in the Files section of this web site: ***** Total Tonic Formula 1 Handful of Garlic Cloves 1 Handful of chopped Onions 1 Handful of chopped Ginger 1 Handful of chopped Horseradish 1 Handful of Black Walnut Hulls 1/2 handful of chopped Habanero Peppers. Throw in a blender and cover with an inch or two of Organic Apple Cider Vinegar. All ingredients should be ORGANIC, but don't let that stop you from making this great formula. You can use the mash right away or wait two weeks and tincture. ***** I take a dropperful every day, increase it to two droppers 4x/day if I feel something coming on or if everyone around me is sick. I have two jars tincturing right now. Sharyn sunnycabo [sunnycabo] Any suggestions on how to avoid getting sick? --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Guest guest
I haven't caught a cold or the flu in the last 2 years. This is what I do. I take the liquid sea nourishment, it's by olympian labs. I used to take seasiler, but it is more expensive. I also drink ginger tea, 3 or 4 times a week. I like the brand called triple leaf. Fresh is the best, but it's alot of trouble to make. I don't know if I have been lucky or if this works for some reason. Also when I did catch the flu, I used a cold and flu formula from living ecology. I didn't really believe it, but I was really sick, felt terrible, so I tried it, since I had to do something, and after 1/2 hour I started to feel better, after 2 hours it was just a cold, and within 24 hours from the time I caught it, it was over. Normally if I catch the flu, I have it for 3 or 4 days. So now every winter I buy a bottle of it, just to have. Anyway, I thought I would just share this, since I hate catching the flu. Not everything works for everybody. Elder berry extract works for me too, but it's not as fast as the living ecology stuff. herbal remedies , " sunnycabo " <sunnycabo> wrote: > > > Hello, I am new to the group so this question may have been asked > before. Guest guest
Good question. I couldn't find them. I made it without them and it's just as good, IMHO.<G> Sharyn J & G [greysquirrelus] Where does one find Black Walnut Hulls?Sharyn Cerniglia <sharyn.cerniglia wrote: Total Tonic, recipe below, but found in the Files section of this web site:*****Total Tonic Formula1 Handful of Garlic Cloves1 Handful of chopped Onions1 Handful of chopped Ginger1 Handful of chopped Horseradish1 Handful of Black Walnut Hulls1/2 handful of chopped Habanero Peppers. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Guest guest
Hi & welcome to the group! First, you'll want to browse the files, where Doc posted the REAL reason ppl get sick, and exactly what a cold or flu really IS. That should give you some insight as to how to prevent it. I also have a few ideas to get you thinking: 1) Drink a gallon (that's 128 oz) of lukewarm-to-warm water DAILY. (Note: NOT cold water.) This will flush your lymph system. The advice came to me from an RN who's a member of the Holistic Nurse's Assoc & she really knows her stuff! 2) Get Lymphatic Drainage massage. As barbaric and harsh as it sounds, it's actually painless and gentle. It's especially important to get in fall and spring when seasons are changing over. It takes about an hour, is performed on a massage table, and the pressure is feather-light. Very safe. 3) Get regular chiropractic adjustments. Realigning the spine so the nerves communicate properly along their pathways in the spine instantly boosts the immune system by *7 TIMES*. (That's *700%*!!) 4) Echinacea is wonderful, but I've found astragulus to work better for me. Echinacea stimulates your immune system. That's great, but most Americans are pretty deficient in the immune system area and don't have much to stimulate in the first place. Thus, its role in preventing colds and flus may be a tad overrated for some people. Astragulus, on the other hand, is actually an immune system BUILDER. And I've found it to work great. In fact, the best preparation I've gotten so far is the Kyolic Garlic brand, orange-label, and it's garlic combined with astragulus and Vitamin C. Knocked my cold out flat! (And it's odor-free, with no weirdo tastes or anything, so you don't have to worry about the sociable factor.) 5) Ginger tea is great, too. Drink it when swallowing the kyolic capsules. Ginger's a yang herb, so it: 1) acts as a catalyst, speeding up and enhancing the effect of the garlic/vitamin C/or whatever else you took, AND 2) yang herbs, when not used in excess, can alleviate yin conditions, which colds and flus fall are classified as. (Cayenne is a wonderful catalyst also, and it also relieves yin conditions. If it upsets your tummy--and it might because it stimulates the digestive system and it MIGHT stimulate a bit much at once--then a couple ginger capsules taken either right along with the cayenne OR afterward once discomfort is already under way should do the trick!) 6) Stay away from toxins. This includes, but isn't limited to: preservatives, sweetners, sugar, colorings, flavor enhancers, hydrogenated oils, poor air quality, cigarette smoke, aerosol sprays, household cleaners, etc etc etc. Inhaling a household cleaner CAN give you a several-day-long cold! Been there, done that, last year! Not fun. Stay as detoxified as possible. This is another area where Vitamin C can help. It's " the " detox vitamin. 7) Get enough fiber. This means veggies and whole grains. Forget " lo- carb " . It's retarded and doesn't work. Atkins dieters are acidic inside and you want to maintain a slightly alkaline environment. Fiber will keep you cleaned out, which is essential to staying detoxified. 8) A little something extra to do is research the concept of proper food combining. It has worked awesome for me by way of helping me feel better, sleep better, by giving me much more energy throughout the day, and it actually helps the immune system. I've experienced the results myself. Should you combine food improperly, take a digestive enzyme (well-balanced, of course, avail at health food stores). I explain below how this helps the immune system. And if you DO get a cold or flu, rejoice! Rest and drink pure fluids and eat healthy, staying away from ALL the mucus-creating dairy and sugar. Eat easily digestible foods like oatmeal and soups. (Stay away from meat except for chicken in soups. Beef especially is incredibly hard on the system.) That way, less energy will have to go toward digestion and that means more energy for your immune system! Trust me- -it works. Understand that a cold or flu is simply the sign that your body is trying to get rid of something. That means two things: 1) your body IS doing its job. Be glad! 2) Take better care of yourself, because your body is telling you there's stuff building up in it over time that it doesn't like. Evaluate your lifestyle/eating habits/household environment and amend it accordingly.
