Guest guest
Hi Mary, Well now it's my 3rd day and everything is going prettty OK except for the eating totally raw part. I'm feeling very stressed about this and I seem to be hungry all the time. I made the ambrosia today - raw cereal - after two days of sprouting. When I ate this, I instantly felt tired, as if I'd eaten a rock or something. I had made it out of almonds, barley, millet, and some others. I blended it with raisins and it tasted really good but I found I could not eat a lot of it because it just made me feel so heavy. Is it OK to eat this type of thing when your problem is kidney-related? I have heard that raw foods are harder on the kidneys than cooked. I am DYING to eat some cooked veggies and am craving protein of some kind like crazy, ie, eggs, meats, etc (doc told me not to even have the raw eggs in my daily Total Nutrition drink). Maybe you can help. I'm seriously wondering if I'm going to make it through a month of eating like this. With all the preparations I am ending up not eating enough and really hungry! This is, of course, stressing me out which can't be good for me. Please offer some help if you can! Guest guest
Lane...I am sorry that you have had to wait so long for an answer. My son has been on the computor today. Yes it is okay to eat this way with the kidney problems. It is not really true that raw foods are harder on the Kidney. Why ?...because all the enzymes necessary for digestion are still alive. The raw is making you feel tired because it is increasing the detox . It is also giving you the nutrients you need. I wish this process could be easier but detoxing is WORK . What I do when I feel really hungry on the cleanse is make alot of fruit smoothies with plenty of ice. This somehow makes me feel like I have had something. Some other things that help when I am hungry is Medjool dates , soaked Almond Milk "shakes" , salad made with apples, celery, raisins, sprouted almonds and pureed fruit as a dressing , sandwich of avocado , tomato and lettuce on sprouted bread Lisa posted a recipe for bread the other day that is sprouted and raw that sounds good. Guest guest
Hi Mary, Thanks for the response. Yesterday I was definitely going through something, but for a long time I could not figure out what it was. It seemed that it had come from the raw cereal I made. I also blended up raisins with this, and then I had some more Total Nutrition, and later I had salad - this also made me feel nauseous so I knew there was something wrong! Salad never makes me feel bad. I thought I had damaged my stomach from the uncooked grains. (have to admit though, it tasted pretty good, though my body didn't like it!) Anyway, I passed out on the couch after a while but woke up during the night with really bad stomach pain and nausea. I handled this with just a lot of water, and finally went back to sleep. I don't know, maybe I am detoxing some of the drugs I had taken earlier for the kidney problem after my cystoscopy operation. They had put me on some antibiotics and other things which really messed me up and caused me to be nauseous for days! This is the only other time I remember feeling stomach pains like that - or when I was a kid and had eaten bad Mexican food! Well I woke today and I'm exhausted - I've been doing running for my exercise the past 2 days (I haven't really run in years) and my body is not used to it. I'm sore all over and still a little sick to my stomach. But, I'm encouraged by the fact that this all might be a detox and not something to fear. I feel like something's definitely changing in my body, and if I could just know this is really going to make my kidney work again, then I would go through it with no fuss. I just got a little "hunger crazy" yesterday. I like your suggestions and will try them today. I don't think I can have bread though - 'cause that's baked, not raw, right? Otherwise I'd love to have that sandwich you mentioned. I think I will buy some bean sprouts at the store, that may be good. Tell me did you go through anything like this on the kidney or colon cleanse or when you first started eating raw? Thanks for the support!! Guest guest
I'm in the western Philadelphia suburbs and we still have watermelon in our stores. It's probably better to eat it in season, but at this point it's better than nothing. I'm eating LOTS of apples now, though, since they are in season. Also, when I was 100% raw, I kept a bag of raw almonds and other nuts in the fridge. When I'd get really hungry, I'd grab a handful. Eat them slowly, chew really well, and you can't eat enough to OD on them, calorie-wise. I know some people say to soak them first (and maybe with a bad kidney that wouldn't be a bad idea), but I didn't. Just ate a handful when I was hungry. Guest guest
Hi Mary, It's so good to hear other people have been through this. I have to admit I'm not donig very good today either. I broke down and put an egg in my morning drink, but afterwards I felt really nauseous again. Of coure it's 5:00 and I haven't had any solid food except a couple of organic kiwis. I just can't shake the feeling that I'm starving myself and it can't be good for me to be under this much stress about something which is supposed to be good for me. I tried to call Doc to ask him for help but he is not there. I am not giving up yet but man, I feel awful! I also just found out, from re-reading the data sheets, that I am supposed to be on a juice fast during the kidney cleanse! I have not been doing this. I am scared to do it. I get lightheaded, feel faint and dizzy when I don't eat solid food, proteins, etc. Does this happen to you? Does this ever get better? How much juice do you have to drink in a day for this feeling to go away and to feel some what full? Thank you so much. Guest guest
Too much at once - YES! That feels exactly right. Trying to go vegan, raw, at a moment's notice is pretty much to take on, plus exercising if you haven't done it in years, and all the other stuff. You know, I would be SO happy at this point to go vegan. Just plain old vegan. If I could cook a potato I would jump for joy! I am getting the idea that this cleansing thing happens to a lot of people. It's just scary! The natural reaction to having pain or some physical reaction is to go "oh my god, what am I doing wrong?" so you immediately get scared. Your brain gets signals from the body that triggers panic. And if you listen to your brain's signals and your nerves going, oh my god, you gotta do something about it because earlier in life that always meant danger. So it's hard to ignore these kind of reactions, ya know? I asked doc in the beginning, what kind of stuff can I expect to go through? He said, it would be fine because of the Total Tonic, etc. But obviously the Tonic isn't able to ward off all bad reactions. I'm just really trusting at this point that everybody has been through this and that I will come out the other side feeling OK. Thanks for listening, guys. Guest guest
Hi Mary, Well it turns out I didn't quite follow instructions and I was taking on too much, too fast. I talked to Doc tonight and he said I had "jumped in with both feet" unnecessarily. He said I don't have to go all raw until the 3rd week, and don't have to do the juice fast until then either. This will give me ample time to make the potassium broth and buy a dehydrator, grinder, etc. I'm so relieved! I had a lot of things wrong. He said I can also have a raw egg for the next few days. I just made myself an awesome soup recipe and it is delicious. It's got all organic potatoes, carrots, celery, parsley, dill, red cabbage, onions, garlic, dulse, and I flavored it with salt, pepper, cumin, bay leaf, sage, marjoram, garlic powder, curry, and some fresh mint! Then top it off, I put in some Total Tonic and cayenne for a bit of a tang! It is delicious! I will call it "Lane's everything soup". Anyway thanks for the support. I am going to keep on going and cut back the exercise to something I can handle. I had not been running at ALL before. So I will do some less strenuous stuff like rebounding, and I'll probably just get back into dance because that's what I used to do when i was a teenager! Thanks to all!! Guest guest
Lane, did you make the Potassium Broth? This is wonderful for when you're feeling hungry, and it's just full of good nutrients. And you can drink as much of this as you want, any time of the day! You can eat the bread that Mary mentioned I had found - this is raw bread, and honestly is absolutely delicious :-)) From what you say, with the nausea etc., and that you had this same feeling when originally on the meds, it definitely sounds like a detox symptom. So try stick to the program as best you can, and you WILL come out the other end feeling much improved! I've just now finished the kidney cleanse, and am re-doing the liver cleanse starting today - Doc's orders. So I know exactly what you're going through, although my symptoms are different than yours. I've had a headache right throughout and still have it. And major (mis-) emotions. Anyhow, use this list and us to help you! I am going to keep on going and cut back the exercise to something I can handle. I had not been running at ALL before. So I will do some less strenuous stuff like rebounding, and I'll probably just get back into dance because that's what I used to do when i was a teenager! Thanks to all!! Don't starve your self , eat ALOT of fruits and vegies , juices.Have you made potassium broth ? This can help you feel better . On the exercise , how long are you running and what was your form of exercise prior to this ? You may have to cut back a little. You are going to feel even worse if you do not get enough raw foods and juices / water in you . total of about a gallon a day . The idea when you feel awful is to move the detox along faster . Hang in there Lane . If you do the program that Doc gave you , you will come out the other side well again. ....Mary - goldenpoems herbal remedies Sunday, November 07, 2004 3:25 PM RE: Herbal Remedies - LANE / First day on the program Hi Mary, It's so good to hear other people have been through this. Guest guest
I have not made the potassium broth yet but the soup I made yesterday was really good and I ate two bowls of it and was FULL. I put a lot of good stuff in there like onions, garlic and sea vegetables which also have much potassium. Today I feel much better - I had doc's Lemon Egg formula last night and slept GREAT. I was not even aware of having many dreams, as I usually am. So I slept hard. This morning the pain in my legs is gone and I am ready to start exercising again, this time on a gradient! I'm also going to start seeing an accupuncturist this week. I was afraid to try this earlier in life but now, oh hell, I'll do anything! So that's going to be an interesting adventure for tomorrow. Feelin pretty good today, seems my cleansing reactions are over for the time being. I could not find that raw bread recipe - can you send it to me again? Thanks!! LaneLisa de Haas <lisadehaas wrote: Lane, did you make the Potassium Broth? That's what we're here for :-) love Lisa - goldenpoems herbal remedies Sunday, November 07, 2004 11:25 PM RE: Herbal Remedies - LANE / First day on the program Hi Mary, It's so good to hear other people have been through this. You will have better days AND will feel WONDERFUL at the end. On my first cleanse , I felt just awful some days .It was not my first experience with raw food however , so that helped. I was still starving and thought that I couldn't do it MANY days.Ask Doc if you can have sprouted bread . There are sprouted cracker recipes on that site that I sent you which you could substitute for the bread. You are doing great Lane. I admire your courage. The first cleanse can be a little frightening to someone who has not done any cleansing or fasting before. I will check for mesages a little more often over the next few days in case you hit a rough patch.....Mary O----- goldenpoems herbal remedies Sunday, November 07, 2004 1:14 PM RE: Herbal Remedies - LANE / First day on the program Hi Mary, Thanks for the response.
