Wendy,

Research has consistently shown that an increased ratio of estrogen

to progesterone, with a mild to moderate excess of estrogen and

deficiency of progesterone(estrogen dominance), is a common factor

in most of the women affected with PMS. Insufficient activity of the

corpus luteum

can lead to decreased progesterone levels.

If progesterone levels

are lower than 10-12 ng/ml, tested 3 weeks after the start of the

last menstruation, corpus luteum insufficiency may well be involved.

Hormones that are linked to PMS include prolactin , thyroid

and adrenal hormones.

Prolactin is normally produced by the pituitary gland and functions

in milk production in lactating women.

However, during periods of stress, lymphocytes will also produce

prolactin. Some woman with PMS

have elevated prolactin levels, while others appear to be over

sensitive to normal levels. Symptoms associated with prolactin

include abdominal stress and could involve IBS.

Prolactin levels can be elevated due to low levels of

Magnesium and Vitamin B-6. These nutrients stimulate the production

of dopamine, which, in turn, limits the release of prolactin. [8]

Low Zn levels also increase prolactin release.

JoAnn

Hi There,

I too have hormone issues. I did a saliva test and found my progesterone was

extremely low, to the point that if I became preg I wouldn't be able to carry

it. I went off the pill and am now on the rocky road to equilibrium, but I also

have thyroid disease along with CFS (which causes a host of other issues). But

what I wanted to say was that my naturapath is very successful with balancing

hormonal issues.

I would recommend that you get your hormones tested just to have a starting

point and if you can afford it, see someone in the integrative medicine field

who WON " T put you on anything synthetic. One thing my naturapath told me to take

was Vitex. It basically calls on the body to produce what it needs, whether it

be high/low progesterone/estrogen. I took it for a couple months and felt

immediate results. I find that holistic md's are much better with these issues.

Good luck to you!

Hi Wendi!

Thank you for your suggestions, I don't feel alone now.

I found two Alternative doctors near me. However for time and money

sake for now, what are anyones opinion on doing the self tests from

that site or from Dr. John Lee (link below)?

Thank you-

Just my 2 cents.

Vitex (Chaste Tree Berry) is an excellent balancer and Evening Primrose Oil

along with Vit. B6 work very well for PMS. Between 1000 and 1300 EPO and 50 mg

B6 daily.  Increase B6 one week before mentruation begins.  It reduce fluid

build up.

Thank you Begum. Can you tell me if that is for organic food or

ordinary food? As I have been told that food is very depleted in

nutrients now because of the soil, I was wondering if you know when

those figures were derived at?
