I need a remedy for skin itching that has been present for about 5

weeks. No rash, ezema etc. just an itch all over. It feels a little

like a mild, niacin flush but I haven't taken any niacin and the itch

is continuuos.

Lee,

Central heating can cause this type of symptom, in some people, when

humidity gets low! If that's the case, a whole house humidifier helps. I

use one with fan and a membrane type filter for passive evaporation! In

TCM they say that over consumption of warming foods, like beef, chicken,

garlic, ginger, etc. can cause overheating(an excessive yang condition)

that dries up yin fluids!

Of course there are many other possibilities that I am sure you've

already looked into for the last five weeks!

Thanks Domingo. You are right at least in the humidity being low. My office

measures in at 35%. I will give it a try as soon as I can get a humidifier but

look forward to other ideas. Currently I am getting a little relief from

Benedryl but not enough to stop the itching totally.

Hi, Lee !

I do not see any external factor affecting your skeen.Probably this is an

external manifestation of an internal metabolism. An abundent spicy

food, indigestion, ingored mild constipation etc. may be suspected of.Milk, leafy

vegetables, rice, fruits like banana, apple etc should be encoraged in timely

meals.Mild laxatives ,ilke I-so-gel,,

Igol(Isapgol Husk ) 6g. at bed time, (with warm water ) will work.Benadryl

will just supress the itching temporarily.

Please give the feedback, if required.

Lee,

I suffered from itching like that for over 5 years before my skin started

showing a rash.  The docs just kept trying different anti-histamines but

couldn't find anything conclusive from my bloodwork.  After all of that time, I

finally ended up in the hospital with a rash that was blood red and burning over

90 percent of my body. I looked like someone had poured gas all over me and lit

a match.   My dermatologist did numerous skin biopsies and finally came the the

conclusion that I have SLE(Systemic Lupus Erythmatosis).  I had to go on large

doses of Prednisone for almost a year.  After that though, things went well as

long as I stayed out of the sun and avoided as much stress as possible(ha-ha).

My bloodwork never was conclusive enough to get a Lupus diagnosis and is only

borderline today.  The skin biopsies however did the job.  Plus I had a

dermatologist who wouldn't give up and promised she would help me no matter

what.

Today I had inflammatory arthritis which could be from the Lupus or it could be

Rheumatoid Arthritis.  Again, my blood work is not conclusive enough for the

rheumatologist to give it a firm diagnosis. I can tell you that it is severe and

it is just one of the many things that could happen when your immune system runs

amuck(sp?)! so if you have all of those tests and they still can't say why you

are itching, it just may be that something else is brewing and will make it's

appearance sometime.

I don't want to make you nervous.  I only want to give you my story for what

it's worth. I wish I had had someone to talk to during all of those early

months.

Keep yourself informed and learn as much as you can about your body and the

immune system.  That is what led me to study herbalism.

Lee,

One - well two more things!  In the early days of my itching I successfully got

some relief from a little cayenne pepper(a pinch) mixed with apple cider vinegar

and from a spray I made using peppermint essential oil mixed with water.  The

cayenne and vinegar I put into a smail dropper bottle and just took it by the

dropperful as needed.  The peppermint oil and water were put into one of those

dollar store spray bottles and I spritzed myself as needed also.

I'll give it a try. I have everything but the peppermint.

Hi Lee!

Have you considered switching over to natural soaps. I use Dr.

Bronner's soaps which is a combination of herbs and pure natural oils. Using

natural bath products helps to alleviate skin

irritations which accompany bathing with all those multiple chemical

additives. OTC soaps inevitably cause skin

irritation of some type or another.

Deodorant soaps are the worst. If you happen to find one in

your local health food store that agrees with your skin type it is

best to just continue on with it. There are so many different combinations I

experiemented with at least 5 or 6 different ones before settling on one that

was more soothing. Some of us have sensitive skin and perhaps more so as we grow

older. You can purchase natural soaps online, or you can

experiment with making your own from a glycerine base available in any

HFS. Most HFS's carry liquid glycerine in rather large pump containers

or you can obtain natural glycerine soaps from your local drugstore or

pharmacy. The deep cleansing you experience from natural soaps is unique. I

would never resort to using chemical soap additives again. The lye soap our

grandmothers made were safer. All of the traditional soaps contain a host of

extremely harmful additives and don't let anyone tell you that they are not

absorbed. They are, to some extent. On the other hand it may be your laundry

detergent. Just a thought...

JoAnn

Hi Lee,

While you did not discuss any other symptoms that you might be experiencing,

I would in general be looking internally for a cause. If there are no other

symptoms please disregard and try the suggestion you've been given already.

Mine had symptoms of gout, rash in the armpits, transient pain and fairly

constant back-pain. Cycles ran about three weeks of feeling like the bottom

of the bird-cage and a week or less of feeling somewhat decent. Liver detox

and repair and diet improvement were recommended by my naturopath.

Good idea but I am already using natural soap. I've been using the same soap

from Whole Foods with no problems for at least a year. I have no idea what I

changed 5 weeks ago that may have brought this on.

What I need first is something to calm the itch down while I figure out what is

causing it. No change in bedding, clothing etc. The itching could be a

reaction to more sulfur in my diet or one of the supplements I am taking. I am

working on eliminating one thing at a time to see which gives relief.

I don't know how old you are, but if you're anywhere near menopause, try

seeing an " alternative " doctor about bio-identical hormone replacement.

Itching

is one of the symptoms of hormone imbalance... not just estrogen... all

those other hormones, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, pregnenolone, Insulin...

First, get on Amazon dot com and order Suzanne Somers' book, " Ageless " ... in

which she explains how all of this works... both for men and for women. Or

find it as Costco, it's only 14.95 there.

Women who had taken birth control pills have totally screwed up their

hormones. Men who eat the american diet get too much estrogen... especially if

they have any fat on their bodies... and this reduces testosterone.

We're all imbalanced! And we're all sick! Do some research on

bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. NOT the premarin pills made from

horse urine,

or the progestin pills made synthetically in Big Pharma's labs. But the

natural hormones that are identical to the human body's hormones, and that the

body can use. All the trials that proved that hormone replacement therapy

caused heart problems, uterine cancer, breast cancer, and whatever else they

did... were all due to using the synthetic hormones from the labs. Not from

using the identical natural hormones.

And guess what... a few months ago the pharmaceutical companies were leaning

on the FDA to make it illegal to make bio-identical hormones by the

compounding pharmacies! That's how big a threat they are. Because they work!

Check it out... I'm sorry for Marji.. what a waste... the doctors know

absolutely nothing about the body... they know only about medicine. They study

disease... not health.

From another Marji... (since 1946 I've been Marji... I'm probably the

first!... )

My daughter had a terrible time with itching skin and hives, and it

was not resolved until she did a liver cleanse. I also hear that a

kidney cleanse can be very helpful.

Dr. Richard Schulze (herbdoc.com) is one source for the herbs needed

for these cleanses. I'm sure there are many others. Good luck!

Have you tried doing a complete cleanse? My son was diagnosed with

Lupus - had all the skin problems Joints, etc. We put him on a

complete cleanse. He drank some nasty tasting herbal brews, fasted,

& went to the steam room alot. Eventually his eyes & hair changed

back to the color they should be- he was that toxic- and his

symptoms all cleared up. He went back to work after months of not

being able to.

Most skin problems are from toxicity. Do a bowl cleanse & a liver

cleanse & alkalanize your system

Hope this helps

I'm not sure who you meant the msg about a cleanse for but it is a great idea.

I have started to cleanse a couple of times but can't get past the sick feeling

I get right away.  I know I am toxic but I am also on meds for pain so I am not

sure if it is wise to do while taking them.. W/o them I cannot move or even roll

over in bed there is so much pain. Thanks again!  I will give it some more

thought.

I have had severe itching too that comes and goes, and sometimes is very

intense, with no scratching alleviating the itch. I also believe the itching

comes from toxicity of the overall body. I also have a fatty liver and

therefore toxins do not move easily through the body. Itching can also be a

symptom of liver disease and in my case I believe it is because I have a fatty

liver (which, by the way, is a diseased liver). I go into these itching spells

when I have overeaten and eating foods I should be staying away from.

Lee,

There is one other suggestion that I would like to leave you with.

When I was quite young I had an extremely red, irritating rash over

the frontal portion of my body and some of my extremities. After

prescribing several rounds of cortisone which brought no relief), in

desperation the doctor told me to bathe thrice daily in bicarbonate

of soda, if I recall correctly it was one cup to a gallon of warm

water. I was instructed to soak in the solution for about a half

hour, leaving the soda solution on my skin, and then pat or wrap in

a towel carefully to keep the residual soda solution intact. I

obtained the very large box of bicarbonate and proceeded to do as he

directed. This process alleviated the rash within three days and I

noticed a remarkable difference in just a day or two. Its fantastic

the way an alkaline bath can soothe and impact the skin.

Woops, pushed the send button when I should have. Anyway, the bicarb sounds

like it could help. I don't have a tub so I will mix it in a small container

and blot it on. BTW, no rash at all, I just itch all over.

I really enjoy your posts.

Thanks,

Lee

Either condition could indicate a need to increase Omegas Oils such

as Fish Oil or Flax-eed. I would also do an Olive Oil Wrap on Hair.

Olive Oil of course taken Internally helps. Trivia: *Peanut

Butter/Organic Natural is an excellent source of *Niacin Vit. B3.

(Note: sometimes a rash can be from a lack of Niacin Vit. B3 also;

called Pellagra. A. I'll find out if Peanut Oil has Niacin in it.
