Guest guest
Hi, I'm brand new to this forum and i'm very anxious to ask about Bromelain. I'm middle-aged and I have been in pain over a year, 3 months post-op spinal fusion and still in pain. I also have been having a lot of hip pain. I took myself off percocet the other day and another dr. gave me a script for nabumetone. Now I don't want this drug either because of the warnings about it. I have tried taking bromalain (2 500 mg.) and foudn that it was very helpful. Can someone give me some more information about bromelain re. safety, dosage, etc. I am one of those that had reactions (angina) to Celebrex, so need to be careful about what I take re. cox 2 inhibitors. Thank you so much and hope I followed the rules properly. Tele

The bromelain in pineapple kept me from experiencing any pain after this procedure. It was a rather large cyst and could have caused a lot of discomfort. Bromelain is fantastic. It can be obtained in fresh pineapple or supplement form. " Bromelain, a chemical in pineapple, helps prevent inflammation. Athletic trainers have been reportedly recommending pineapple to athletes to prevent and treat sports injuries. It is believed to have a beneficial effect on arthritis. " " Bromelain can help the body get rid of immune antigen complex, compounds that are implicated in some arthritic conditions. It also helps digest fibrin, another compound suspected of being involved in some types of arthritis. " A good dosage for bromelain is 250 to 500 mg three times each day between meals. Any other sources ? > Thx & BRgds, > Irene Hi Irene! Look for pineapples that are heavy for their size. While larger pineapples will have a greater proportion of edible flesh, there is usually no difference in quality between a small and large size pineapple. Pineapple can be left at room temperature for one or two days before serving. While it will not make the fruit any sweeter, it will help it to become softer and more juicy, however you should watch them closely during this period to ensure that they do not spoil. After two days, if you are still not ready to eat the pineapple, you should and store it in the refrigerator where it will keep for three to five days. Pineapple that has been cut up should be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container. It will stay fresher and retain more taste and juiciness if you also place some liquid, preferably some juice from the pineapple, in the container. Although pineapple can be frozen, this process affects its flavor. There is a full indepth report on the nutrients in pineapple at this website: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=nutrientprofile & dbid=27 For it's anti-inflammatory effects, pineapple should be eaten alone between meals or its 'enzymes' will be " used up " digesting food. Since bromelain is " deactivated " by heat, pineapple juice and canned pineapple are not good sources of this 'health-promoting' enzyme. Guest guest
I would love to eat pineapple but can't now due to the sugar content, so I'm thankful for bromelain supplements to help with digestion and inflammation.
