In early 2005, the David Horowitz organization, Students For Academic Freedom (founded 2003), Lynne Cheney's American Council of Trustees and Alumni ( " ACTA " ), and an outfit called Foundation for Individual Rights in Education ( " FIRE " ) campaigned for government at all levels and academic authorities, to take action to fire or otherwise suppress teachers critical of the Bush/Cheney administration. As a direct result, in mid-2005, the Republican majority in control of the Pennsylvania state House of Representatives set up a Subcommittee on Academic Freedom in Higher Education. David Horowitz testified to the committee, as did representatives of his student group, and of Lynne Cheney's ACTA, and of FIRE. The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education ( " FIRE " ) works to fire dissident professors. FIRE was founded by Dr. Alan Kos, the George Herbert Walker professor of the intellecutal history (French Enlightenment) at Univ. of Pennsylvania, endowed in honor of the founder of the modern Bush family and of the Thyssen/Hitler bank. The FIRE BOARD OF ADVISERS includes T. KENNETH CRIBB, who is simultaneously president of William F. Buckley's Intercollegiate Studies Institute; and Counselor to the Federalist Society; and president of the " COLLEGIATE NETWORK " , the funder and manager of 90 rightist campus newspapers including monthly Bruin Standard at UCLA. This " Collegiate Network " was founded under a different name in 1979 as a project of Irving Kristol and Kristol's protege Michael Joyce; Joyce went on to head the Bradley Foundation and to sponsor and in effect co-found the foundations of John Train and David Horowitz. The Collegiate Network's first project was to create a sudent newspaper at the University of Chicago under John Podhoretz, whose mother Midge Decter soon was the founding treasurer of John Train's foundation. Through the years it placed followers of Leo Strauss throughout U.S. academia. It is now managed by the Buckley organziation. Other FIRE board of advisers members are Leonard Liggio, a long-time boss of the Mont Pelerin Society; a woman who is co-founder of Lynne Cheney's " Independent Women's Forum " ; and another woman who is on that Forum's board and is on the board of Lynne Cheney's ACTA. Another long-time FIRE board of advisers member was DAVID BRUDNOY, a Boston University teacher and friend of Bill Buckley. Brudnoy attacked in radio interviews African development policies, saying the U.S. should let Africans die because there are " too many people anyway, " Marty Rowland romar1
