Guest guest
i've been using suave for years with great results. atleast on the surface. not sure what's happening underneath. i've been reading more and more about the possible risk of breast cancer and alzheimers disease due to ingredients in deoderant and antipersperant. a few weeks back i went through several 'natural' deoderants, of which NOTHING worked like suave or sure or what have you at CVS, with aluminum and other unfortunate ingredients in them. and when i say the 'natural' brands i tried don't work, i mean very soon after application, i feel sticky under my arms and i stink! i even tried rubbing coconut oil under my arms as i read the antibacterial properties in it really help. a part of it could be it was a very muggy hot summer here in dc..and another more important thing could be that my body may be detoxifyng as i continue changing my lifestyle towards natural. maybe my BO will be different a few months from now. Maybe it will actually become fragrant some day, sigh.. as i improve on the unhealthy air, water, food, and drugs i've had for so long. but seriously, am i this dependant on the deoderants carried at CVS or Walgreens? i SO wish there was some 'natural' brand deoderant out there that actually works. till then, i'm stuck with suave, or taking multiple showers a day. i already fret upon taking a shower each morning considering DC water is flouridated. ughh! (oh, and then there's the chlorine, but i got a chlorine filter so just need to install). has anyone here overcome deoderant woes? if so, please tell me what finally worked for you! and i'm curious what people on this forum think about the deoderant/antipersperant ingredients issue. thanks! vandana in dc. Guest guest
I have not used any deodorant since 1964. When I first stopped, my armpits stank. I had lots of very greasy perspiration. Over a few months, my persiration problems went away. I suspect taking saunas or steam baths may speed the process of re-balancing one's armpits after stopping all deodorants (including soaps with deodorant). Eating right, drinking plenty of water, not smoking, and allowing one's armpits to sweat is healthy. Humans are supposed to smell like we do. Bad smelling sweat is a sign that something is amiss. Sweat eventually ferments & gets real stinky, but if one does not use any deodorant soaps or body lotions which mess with natural body pH, sweat does not ferment in a day or longer, even in hot weather. Humans are not supposed to smell like flowers or other plants. Use of deodorants and anti-perspirants can prevent the body from excreting wastes. This can cause problems. Likewise there are the dangers inherant in the chemicals used in deodorants. I looked at some of the so-called natural products. One was this rock one rubbed into one's armpits. The rock is Alum. Alumiminum is linked to Alzheimer's disease. Many health conscious people refuse to use Aluminum pots for fear of the Aluminum. And yet, health food stores sell Alum to rub into one's armpits. Not me. I sure would never use the crap. Guest guest
I found nothing. There was some sort of mineral thing from Israel that was supposed to be a natural deodorant, but I broke out in the worse rash from it. I had a friend who was allergic to some deodorant ingrediant and she could never find an effective replacement. I think an 'antiperspirant' contains the aluminum and blocks up the pores. The 'deodorant' part, I believe, is just a scent that covers up your odor. There is a genetic component to this, as well. My mom would rarely sweat under her arms and wondered what the fuss was about. She only used antiperspirants in the dead of summer. My dad, on the other hand, would sweat profusely and would wash and apply the stuff sometimes twice a day. , " vapurohit " <vandana.purohit wrote: > > i've been using suave for years with great results. atleast on the > surface. not sure what's happening underneath. i've been reading > more and more about the possible risk of breast cancer and > alzheimers disease due to ingredients in deoderant and > antipersperant. > > a few weeks back i went through several 'natural' deoderants, of > which NOTHING worked like suave or sure or what have you at CVS, > with aluminum and other unfortunate ingredients in them. and when i > say the 'natural' brands i tried don't work, i mean very soon after > application, i feel sticky under my arms and i stink! i even tried > rubbing coconut oil under my arms as i read the antibacterial > properties in it really help. > > a part of it could be it was a very muggy hot summer here in dc..and > another more important thing could be that my body may be detoxifyng > as i continue changing my lifestyle towards natural. maybe my BO > will be different a few months from now. Guest guest
Hi, I started using natural deoderants about two years ago for the same reason as you stated (breast cancer and alzheimer's). At this time I also realized our bodies are suppose to sweat at times, so why should I stop it with an anti-perspirant and I promptly switched to deoderants. I also live near D.C. and I understand about the weather. I have gone thru a few natural brands. I used Kiss My Face roll on deoderant for a long time even though it was wet and cold and I sweated and became stinky at times. I then switched to Thai stone deoderant which you have to wet and then apply. That was ok and the results were the same as the roll on. I then started using both of them together...apply the roll on and then apply the stone (don't wet the stone with water). The results are great! I sweat some but I don't stink! I would rather put up with being wet and cold under my arms for a little while and a little sweaty than put deoderant/anti-perspirant which can be harmful. Guest guest
Well there you go! Vinegar would have to be the most IMPORTANT item to have in your cupboard!! Guest guest
Esther and Alobar, a few people recommended the stone to me. I got the same brand, Thai, and it works really well. i've been using it for 3 days, and so far so good. some perspiration, but not stink. i guess different deoderants will work for different people due to each individual's body chemistery. Alobar mentioned these stones have alum in them. i too had noticed this and go worried, so i looked into it further. below is a description i pasted for the thai stone. based on this..the alum should not be a problem. Alobar, what do you think?... *** Thai stone is a pure product made without the addition of chemicals, fragrances, oils or alcohol. Potassium alum is a colorless substance that forms octahedral or cubic crystals.Bauxite is the ore from which alum is drawn. It is formed by the rapid weathering of granite rocks in warm, humid climates and can be purified & converted directly into alum. Potassium alum is soluble in 7 times its weight of water at room temperature & is very soluable in hot water. When crystalline potassium alum is heated, some of the water of hydration becomes chemically seperated & the partly dehydrated salt dissolves in this water. Potassium alum molecules have a negative ionic charge, making it unable to pass through the cell wall. THEY ARE NOT ABSORBED! This is why Thai deodorants are SAFE to use and WILL NOT Cause high levels of aluminum in your system. ALUM & ALUMINUM are 2 different substances with distinct chemical signatures. , Esther Donovan <e_donovan1 wrote: > > Hi, > > I started using natural deoderants about two years ago for the same reason as you stated (breast cancer and alzheimer's). Guest guest
I would not take the word of people who say that Alum is safe, particulalrly if those people are selling the deodorant stone. Alzheimer's disease is a very big risk and the benefits of deodorants are small. People who sell Aluminum pots say their pots are safe. I don't use Aluminum pots. I'd rather err on the safe side than become a drooling old man who has no idea where is is and needs a 24 hour nurse.
