Hello Everyone.

I am new to this forum but not new to .

I just wanted to see if anyone could help me out here. I take several

vitamins,and supplements. Lately I have had this problem with a lot

of my hair falling out and was wondering if any of the things that I

take have been known to cause this.

 

Here is my list:

 

Fish Oil 1200 mg 3 times daily

Flaxseed oil 1200 mg 3 times daily

Hawthorn Berries 565 mg 3 times daily

Biotin 5000 mcg 1 time daily

CLA Tonalin 1000 mg 4 times Daily

Essential Greens

Chelated Zinc 50mg 1 time daily

Selenium 200 mcg 1 time daily

If you are in India you will get a lot of remedies.

 

my suggestion is just make a paste of garlic 10 grams approximately mix with

water and apply on hair root bathe after 30 minutes .

This will finish all kinds of micro organisms that stay in the hair route.

you repeat it in alternate days , 3 or 4 applications enough.

Then apply cows milk on head and allover body

and bathe after 30 minutes

a nutrition to the hair as well as to skin.

this twice weekly.

These are all harmless methods.

Hi Lisa,

To my knowledge everything you listed is fine with the exception of

one and that is - CLA Tonalin. I would admonish you and our other

readers to please not confuse this one with GLA which provides many

healing benefits. This is the manner is which The

Canadian 'essential fatty acid' expert, Udo Erasmus describes CLA in

the articles taken from his website.

 

 

The following is a quote from one of his articles :

 

" CLA: conjugated linoleic acid, a trans- fatty acid made from the n-

6 essential linoleic acid

by bacterial or industrial " partial hydrogenation " ,

or by " high-temperature industrial processing " .

 

HYDROGENATION is the " king of the toxic castle " !

In this process, oils are superheated and exposed to hydrogen in

attempts to " saturate " the unsaturated molecular bonds.

Besides saturation it creates TRANS FATTY ACIDS

which have been tied to increases in cardiovascular disease,

cancer, diabetes and compromised immune and reproductive function.

 

CLA,conjugated linoleic acid, made by a bond shift and a twist of

the molecule, is not a " nutrient " that is 'essential' for health.

 

 

The Norwegian food-authorities are now warning the following groups

about the dangers of CLA:

 

 

GROUP - DANGER

 

Pregnant Mothers - Affects birth weight and height

Breast Feeding Mothers Reduces fat in mother's milk

High Cholesterol ------

Overweight and Diabetes 2 Insulin Resistance

 

This information was published on 16th January, 2004 in a full-page

article in Aftenposten, the biggest " serious " (non-tabloid)

newspaper in Norway.

Norwegian authorities are now developing language for mandatory

label warnings on CLA-containing products. Sellers will have print

warnings on labels outlining groups who are in danger from using CLA.

Thank you so much for taking the time to get back with me on my question.

The CLA-Tonalin that I take is 100% Safflower Oil. I guess there are different

kinds of it. The information you posted is good to know though. Thanks, I am

very glad that I found this group because I do like trying different things as

an Alternative for Medicines. Reading all of the good information here will be a

big help to me.

In practice, the use of oils, especially the n-6 rich corn and

safflower oils,

which have been studied for many years, show a " correlation " with

increased cancer.

All oils except cold pressed extra virgin olive oil have been

processed by the same destructive methods.

 

The oils that are " processed " with a corrosive base, window

washing acid, bleaching clays, and then heated to frying

temperatures before they go in the bottles include corn,

 

safflower,

 

soybean, canola, and the other oils found on the shelf in

supermarkets, convenience stores, and even health food stores in

supplements or transparent glass or plastic bottles.

 

If oil does not say 'unrefined' on its label, it has

been " processed " by the 'methods' described above.

 

Oils made with health (rather than shelf life) in mind are pressed

from organically grown seeds and nuts,

protected from destruction by light, air (oxygen), and heat during

pressing, filtering, and filling into dark glass bottles.

Hi Lisa!

I know that several people have inquired into CLA. I may have you

confused with someone else, however since you are the individual who

asked about CLA initally I will post my response here.

It is worrisome to experience hair loss and surprisingly this

condition may not be caused by your supplements, but rather a

combination of diet and supplements.

Unfortunately because I have no idea of your current state of health

although I would like to help, it is extremely difficult to analyze

the problems involved.

Dr. Earl Mindell has authored several books concerning the links

between hair loss and high protein diets. He maintains that

hydrogenated fats (twisted plastic fats)primarily because of the

ways they promote " acidosis " lead to hair loss. According to Udo

Erasmus and several recent documented Danish studies, it is obvious

that CLA has been placed in the 'twisted fat' category,

which essentially promoting an 'inflammatory' degenerative state of

arteriosclerosis, strokes and even more severe hardening of the

arteries subsequently not conducive to healing because of the way in

which it competes with and tends to 'deplete' our

existing " essential fatty acid " levels. CLA is a harmful omega-6,

not only because it has undergone the " hydrogenation " process, (high

temperature conversion to saturated fat status), but also since it

is essentially a highly refined, carcinogenic, bleached and refined

corrosive oil!

Although most supplements do not state the source (it takes a lot

more research to deterimine this) safflower oil being an omega-6 is

also highly inflammatory, carcinogenic, and essentially should also

be avoided as well.

 

It is the ratio of essential fats to all the other fats that really

determine our current 'state of health'. It is important to remember

this when selecting each specific supplement, also the foods that we

need to consume on a daily basis need to be considered as well for

they may also be contributing to inflammation! For my research has

led me to believe that inflammation is the primary cause of disease,

is implicated in vascular disease... (this is why we need large

amounts of antioxidants).

 

Essential Fatty Acids, and particularly GLA (gamma-linolenic acid)

from Evening primrose oil, prevent 'inflammatory reactions'

throughout the body.

The best way to insure that your GLA levels stay high and in balance

with other fatty acids is to avoid those things that 'deplete' GLA.

The major offender is trans fatty acids found in omega-6 oils and

nearly all " processed " foods. These fake oils rob the body of GLA.

Whole grains, and particularly organic 'high fiber' oatmeal, raw

nuts and even pumpkin seeds have varying amounts of GLA included. We

need to include more in our diets, while excluding the unhealthy

oils and fats as well.

 

Regarding Flaxseed oil

Taking too much alpha-linolenic acid, the omega-3 fatty acid found

in flaxseed oil, is another way to " suppress " GLA production.

 

Flaxseed oil is a bit of a nutritional fad right now, however we

don't

recommend you take large amounts of it long-term,as it is a highly

'unstable' unsaturated oil that can do more harm than good if

it is 'rancid' or taken in 'excess'.

 

Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) found in fish oil, regulates the

*hormones* that control your brain and heart and 'inhibits'

inflammation.This is why we encourage you to eat cold water deep sea

fish such as alaskan salmon, sardines which as waterpacked or

flounder at least twice a week.

 

You should be taking fifty to a hundred more EPA than GLA oils.

You only need 1-2 mg of GLA and 50-100 mg of EPA.

 

If you'd like a clearly written, well-researched book on

prostaglandins and essential fatty acids,

try " Enter the Zone " by Barry Sears (Regan books, 1995)
