What Is Worm Learn?

WormLearn is an online parasitology information package designed for

anyone who'd like to find out some more information about parasitic

worms and other critters that have a tendency to share our personal space.

WormLearn grew out of the now sadly defunct Queensland University of

Technology Parasitology Pages, a collection of parasitology images I

put together in 1994/1995 to help students enrolled in medical

parasitology subjects at QUT. These pages proved to be more popular

outside the university than in, and I received hundreds of letters

either thanking me for the resource or asking further questions. Since

the pages were big on pictures and small on information, I had always

planned to update them, and make them slightly more suitable for a

wider audience.

WormLearn is an amalgam of the images site and a loose collection of

talks and seminars on parasitology I gave to school children,

community groups and other lay audiences while I was supposed to be

getting my PhD thesis written up. It has evolved into more of an

educational resource for teachers (especially junior and senior

secondary school), which fits my change in career path. However, I'd

hope that it contains something of interest for everyone.

WormLearn is not intended to be an extensive course in parasitology -

universities have entire degree course to try to do that. The

information provided is a collection of basic information from texts

and research, liberally intermixed with folklore. I really try hard to

point out the folklore, but if you spot some howlers that I've let

through unnoticed, please let me know.

For more information on what WormLearn is and is not, please read the

disclaimer.
