Guest guest
Howdy, I had a bout with acid reflux several years ago! It was quite annoying not to mention painful. I was told to place a 4" x 4" post under the headboard of my bed.....elevating it from the rest of the bed. Just this simple thing did help alot!! Also, no eating after 5 pm for several weeks and keeping an eye on your diet......It took a few weeks, but it all worked to rid the acid reflux. Guest guest
When menopause hit me, I would get gas, heartburn, acid-reflux , you name it from anything I ate. I found the calendula works wonders for me. I either make a tea, for keep capsules in my purse for when I am out and about. Guest guest
Yes my doctor likes to push that as well. A change in diet really helped me. I had to eliminate cofffee, alcohol, and grains really bothered me. I increased my good fats and if I had any problems I took a little baking soda in water. Getting rid of the grains really helped me. I know some swear by taking a little apple cider vinegar in water before meals but I have not tried that. Guest guest
try food enyzines. The health food store has them. As we get older we don't digest food the same way as we were younger. There fore reflux happens. Yogert everyday sometimes can add the enyzines needed. Natural acidophilus culture, this comes in a 16oz bottle, in a couple flavors. One last thing to try is, an apple a day. Good luck Mykhal Thomas <bootzey wrote: I have been recently diagnosed with gastric reflux and put on Prevacid. Guest guest
___________________ Dear Mykhal Thomas, As you know,GERD (Gastro-esophageal Reflux Disease) is due to leaking of stomach acid back into the lower esophagus and acid coming up into the throat. This can also occur in severe cases of osteoporosis, when the rib cage and upper body have collapsed to the point where food transit is impeded. People who suffer from acid reflux are far more likely to develop cancer of the esophagus. Antacids do not reduce the cancer risk, only mask symptoms and often doing more harm than good. They don't prevent or cure the underlying condition and can upset stomach pH causing it to produce even more harmful acids. Here are a few recommendations to choose from...1- Lessen spasm and pain: Glutamine 500mg 4X daily or 1 teasp. glutamine powder in juice 3X daily) decreases permability of small intestine to increase absorption. (Relief often within 30 minutes) CrampBarkCombo extract 1/2 dropperful at a time as needed for pain and spasms. Propolis extract 1/2 dropperful every 4 hours during an attack. 2- Sooth inflamed tissue of the stomach lining and esophagus: Chamomile tea; Pau d' arco tea; Licorice root extract; GINSENG-LICORICE ELIXIR; Slippery elm or marshmallow tea as needed. Bromelain 1500mg as needed; or Quercetin 3 daily to reduce inflamation, with bromelain and Vitamin C; Zinc gluconate lozenges under the tongue as needed. EMULSIFIED "A" 25,000 2Xdaily to rebalance digestive tract. 3- After initial stages, bitter herbs stimulate the secretion of stomach acid, cleanse the stomach and balance its functions: Bitters (gentian, golden seal, dandelion and Oregon grape) plus lemon extract to balance gastro intestinal region; Milk Thistle Seed extract for 1 to 3 months; TRIPHALA caps as directed or Aloe vera juice daily. 4- Protease enzymes help curb leaky gut syndromes: Enzymedica purify as directed (results even in serious cases). Glutamine 500mg 4X daily (or 1 teasp glutamine powder in juice 3X a day) decreases permability of small intestine to increase absorption. 5- Digestive enzymes and probiotics rebalance the gastric area: Herbal Products and Development Power Plus Food Enzymes; Enzymatic Therapy Chewable DGL (deglycyrrhizinated licorice) to normalize after taking Prevacid as needed; Pancreatin 1400mg with meals; and remember Green and blue-green phyto-plankton almost perfect Superfood therapy: Alfalfa, Barley grass, Chlorella, Liqiud Chlorophyll, Green Kamut, Spirulina, & Wheatgrass juice. Get plenty of sunshine and exercise and stay on an organic diet dominated by water/fruit/juices/vegetables/sprouted grains/etal Be Blessed in the right use of this Knowledge...JOYintheMorning... ___________________ Mykhal Thomas <bootzey wrote: I have been recently diagnosed with gastric reflux and put on Prevacid. Guest guest
You need stomach acid to absorb minerals that we need. Prevacid prohibits the stomach from producing acid. This also puts a strain on the rest of the digestive tract. Stomach acid also helps fight off the H. Pylori bacteria that causes ulcers (believe, this is an area where I've greatly suffered, and my esophagus is still very messed up though the stomach ulcers are healed). I can see someone using these short term to allow healing, but a lifetime on them can become very dangerous. Guest guest
Prevacid Side Effects:When taking Prevacid, you may experience nausea or stomach pain. If these side effects are persistent or bothersome, call your doctor. Other more serious side effects include diarrhea, muscle pain, changes in stool color, chest pain, stomach pain, rapid heartbeat, breathing trouble, mood changes, or vision changes. Call your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms. If you feel that you are having an allergic reaction to Prevacid, you should also get medical attention. These symptoms include difficulty breathing, itching, swelling, or dizziness. Seems I'd be better off with the reflux. Guest guest
Also try two table spoons of Apple cider Vinager with mother. It does work wonders. But the Vinager has to be labeled as it is written here. Good luck.Nettie Horner <kittifish wrote: try food enyzines. The health food store has them.
