Guest guest
Michael what is even harder to believe is that most of those same people go to the polls and vote against themselves continuously. Instead of voting for themselves they consistently vote for the elite and big business. They vote to give tax cuts to the very wealthy, OK to monopolies, tearing down of individual rights, employee rights, and everything else that will screw themselves at every turn. They get sidetracked by wedge issues that have nothing to do with their lives, like gays, religion, etc. They vote for politicians who lie to them with great sounding slogans on patriotism, family values, americanism, ethics, etc. when in reality these same politicians, despite mouthing platitudes, etc are nothing better than small time crooks and conmen who will consistently sell out the little guys to big business almost 100% of the time. The deck is now so far stacked aginst the worker and individuals in our society and in favor of the very rich and big business that it many never change back. Due to spin, propaganda, lies, slogans, etc. the majority of the people don't have a clue what the real score is. They mainly get their news from the propaganda machines of major media. They are angry and know that they are getting screwed, then out of outrage they go and vote for politicians to increase more of the same policies and treatment they are angry about. Go figure. , " Michael " <mwood wrote: > > > I saw something today that I have seen before; but it just doesn't sit > right. > A man had been injured seriously on the job, and was laying on the floor in > agony awaiting an EMS crew. Guest guest
I saw something today that I have seen before; but it just doesn’t sit right. A man had been injured seriously on the job, and was laying on the floor in agony awaiting an EMS crew. His supervisor, a corporate representative, was standing over him telling him that he would be “written up” for not following proper procedure ( it was later determined that he actually hadn’t broken any rules…). With right to work laws and corporate friendly government, workers such as this- who have no insurance and paltry wages thanks to these same corporate folks- cannot but wonder how they are viewed. It appears to me that we are seen by these folks as nothing more than machine parts, with broken ones to be replaced. On the same day, I read that the only country in the world that Walmart has to deal with Unions in is China. The Chinese government insisted that workers had a right to organize and have a Union. I tried to imagine how things could be so reversed and backwards- that those workers in China have more rights than their counterparts in America. That is sad. When these pandering politicians ask for your votes, insist that they tackle- as a high priority- workers rights and corporate monopoly. These corporate entities must have the same laws applied to them that were used against the Big Trusts and Monopolies earlier in our history. At any rate, the experiment of allowing capitalism to float free of regulation has obviously failed. The only thing I see tricking down to the 90 % of us from the wealthy 10 % smells of urine. Lets flush the toilet. Michael
Guest guest
A guy that does a pretty good job of explaining this phenomena is Thomas Frank who wrote a book entitled: " What's the Matter With Kansas? Guest guest
Those wedge issues are designed to be used as wedges to divide and conquere all classes, other than the very wealthy, to keep them confused and in turmoil. The very wealthy know what politics are all about. To them it is money and power. The rest is to confuse the electrate so they don't see them stealing money and power. The rest of the electorate don't have a clue. They are chasing sticks being thrown in different directions to go fetch, like you would keep your dog's attention occupied or distracted from something more important. These wedge issues are not proposed so that they will ever really be enacted, but to remain as political hay forever or as long as they work on the electorate. Something to wave around and incite the great unknowing crowd. Sorta like the war on terror, war on cancer, war on drugs, etc. These issues are so valuable to use, that the last thing they will allow is to ever really win one of these wars. They just go on forever or until they are no longer effective, then they will invent a new war. Later they may resurrect an old war and put it into " reruns " . Most people believe what thy have been taught to believe. Most people are filled with " common knowledge " . Stuff that " everyone knows to be true " . Most common knowledge is false and someone or something went to a lot of time and expense to get you to believe it. Medicine is not about healing, etc. It is like " 1984' and has been for quite some time now. Peace is war. Slavery is freedom, etc. A more true interpretation is usually the opposite of what the program is labeled or described. , " Michael " <mwood wrote: > > Absolutely. > Right now, as we speak, the Bush neocon crowd is pushing themselves as " pro > life " because of their " opposition to abortion and to homosexuality in the > public schools. Guest guest
Absolutely. Right now, as we speak, the Bush neocon crowd is pushing themselves as “pro life” because of their “opposition to abortion and to homosexuality in the public schools.” It is very frustrating to try to tell these folks, most of them sincere Catholics or others of deep religious faith, that the “religious right” and their icons like Bush aren’t really the sons of the Almighty that they feign; but rather are using these issues to get elected. Guest guest
One of the ironies here is that “alternative medicine” is no longer an alternative for most Americans- thanks to the neocon Republican policies of the past few years. Most folks I know, including myself, have no choices other than to die, since “health care” is no longer an affordable option. (Perhaps that is a blessing, given that pharmaceutical medicine seems to be rather deleterious to human health.lol Honestly, I look at all the poisons that folks ingest and wonder whether the rich who can afford these pills really are the blessed ones.) This cite has always been an encouragement and a help. I hope that I pass on beneficial information to those who need it; and I know that I have received some really good data here. Keep the faith folks, and don’t let these bastards win. Guest guest
You answered your own question here. The final battle with all that is anti-democratic in our society, will be fought with media. People are not simply deceived by corporate media, they mistrust their own doubts about what they see and hear, preferring to believe that media couldn't possibly be as bad as a few of their friends suggest they are. In a world of dizzying political complexity, in the long run, they prefer to believe that media are more or less telling them the truth. Media, especially electronic media, are owned and operated by the worst scoundrels of all, and they present such a civilized, such an innocent, apparently well meaning exterior; polished and scrupulously professional. jp - califpacific Monday, July 31, 2006 4:58 PM Re: Trickle down economics (snip) Due to spin, propaganda, lies, slogans, etc. the majority of the people don't have a clue what the real score is.
