Guest guest
Hi All, I just got a new book last night that was recommended to me on another group and it is fantastic! The book is: " Herbal Vade Mecum: 800 Herbs, Spices, Essential Oils, Lipids, Etc.- Constituents, Properties, Uses, and Cautions " (Paperback) by Gazmend Skenderi If you are looking to start an herbal research library, this is where you should begin. If you already have a library, this should be in it. One of the things I love about the book is that it includes both a medical and chemical terms glossary, as well as lists of ailments and the herbs that are used to treat them. The number of herbs and plants that are included is the most extensive of any of the books I have, or of any that I have seen. It's a little technical, but not nearly as much as the phytopharmaceutical book that I have, and, as I mentioned earlier, it includes glossaries. Another thing that it includes, (which a lot of books don't), is a caution section for each plant which lists known interactions with other herbs and drugs. Cynthia BTW, Amazon is running a special... this book along with " Encyclopedia of Herbal Medicine: The Definitive Home Reference Guide to 550 Key Herbs with all their Uses as Remedies for Common Ailments " by Andrew Chevallier (hardback) for $50.15, which is also an awesome book, in fact, I am using this book for the initial entries in my " Master Index of Herbal Names " that I am compiling. (This book also has instructions on how to make a lot of the different types of herbal preparations, like infusions, ointments, balms, creams and more) If you could only have two books on herbs, my choice would be these two.
