Guest guest
Here you go ¡V my words of wisdom on diabetes 1. I am losing weight ¡V a major contributor to diabetes 2. I am eating better ¡V got rid of ALL things with high fructose corn syrup - did you know a bunch of " healthy " breads have high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) in them? Look at a whole-wheat package of bread at a store and on the front all kinds of claims about health then the ingredients that say things like HFCS and some have hydrogenated oils and some have a ton of ingredients I don¡¦t even know what they are. 3. I read labels on everything that I buy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVERYthing 4. I exercise at least 10 minutes after every meal ¡V go for a walk, go down on the work out machine, do yoga ¡V something. 5. I use the following supplements ¡V there are more you can get¡KI just am limited on money right now so I am going for the most bang for the buck „h bitter melon ¡V I buy the tea / leaves at Asian grocery stores ¡V get the leaves and make tea from them ¡V after every larger meal ¡V 3 x a day ¡V I make it into ice tea for the summer „h I take cinnamon 500 mg with breakfast and lunch „h fenugreek ¡V yep I put it in my food ¡V love it in wild brown rice „h potassium gluconate ¡V 595 mg once a day „h alpha lipoic acid (ALA) 300 mg once a day 6. I try to stay with foods that are on the low glycemic index and low glycemic load lists. good web site http://www.mendosa.com/gilists.htm 7. We cook a lot more from scratch ¡V we turned the kitchen upside down after we learned I had a problem ¡V we threw out everything that had trans fats, HFCS and anything else that no longer looked healthy 8. I don¡¦t eat things I don¡¦t like to make someone feel good ¡V (parties, family meals etc.) 9. I am learning to like things like salmon ¡V previously I would have not bothered as it has always been too fishy for me ¡V I am not a huge fan yet but I will eat it now. 10. I don¡¦t drink pop of any sort ¡V not even diet pop as I believe the crap they put in the diet pops is killing us and I also think it makes you crave more sugar 11. We eat at home more ¡V less out at restaurants 12. I personally think that more people should eat a healthy diabetic diet full of lots of fruits and veges, yogurts (without HFCS), and whole grains. We have substituted sweet potatoes for white potatoes when we grill ¡V they taste 200% better than the white. 13. Whenever I think my life has become restrictive I think of my family and how they would feel should I die early in life due to something that I could change. 14. Do what ever you need to do to decrease your stress load! VERY IMPORTANT After my self education the past few months I am convinced a HUGE reason why there are so many fat Americans (myself included - 40 more pounds to go) - is that our diets are full of foods we cannot digest, fats that are not even close to being something ANY ANIMAL should ever eat, and ridiculous amounts of sugar - and a lot of it is put into food that you have no clue it is there unless you always read the labels. Even things I buy often I always double check now. One of the businesses by my house makes bread - really good bread and they always used honey to sweeten the bread...well recently without telling anyone they switched it to high fructose corn syrup. They said that honey got to be too expensive. So I tell everyone in Ann Arbor to stay away from their bread now. I believe HFCS to the as addictive as any other drug. Salad dressings - that new spray salad dressing that is being marketed as diet aid - second ingredient HFCS! If I really want sugar now I use molasses, honey, or raw sugar (not the processed white stuff). However I have found that by cutting the crap out of my diet that I don't crave sweets like I used to. Also if I do have sweets of any sort it is not before I go to bed. While you sleep your body regenerates. The healthiest meal should be the last meal of the day, don¡¦t ever make it your worst or your numbers will show in the morning. My starting glucose number was 220! Now my fasting number is averaging 133! I have lost 15 pounds total ¡V have hit a plateau so I am trying a few new things to speed the metabolism back up. > > I have an unrelated question for you, you said you had almost reversed > your diabetes, what did you use? Guest guest
Sorry for all of the goofy font things going on here. I previewed it before posting and there weren't all of these goofy font things then. Since I cannot edit it just ignore them. , " kkachado " <kkachado wrote: > > Here you go ¡V my words of wisdom on diabetes > > 1. I am losing weight ¡V a major contributor to diabetes > 2. Guest guest
Have you tried Stevia as a sweetener? It's a plant extract (a lot of medicinal teas use it to sweeten them)I've been using it (the extract) for about 2 years, it's recommended for diabetics. I also don't drink sodas or coffee, just water and tea and my one really bad habit, malt beverages. My bedtime glucose runs between 85 and 125. I take 2-4 fenugreek caps with everything I eat or drink (besides water) and twice a day, I take two " Glucose Balance " which contains Gymnema, American Ginseng, Bitter Melon, Fenugreek, green tea, milk thistle and yacon. Guest guest
I like stevia but since I don't drink hot drinks I don't use it much. It tends to not break down in cold drinks. , " Cynthia " <cindyvdz wrote: > > Have you tried Stevia as a sweetener? Guest guest
I've seen it as a liquid extract... , " kkachado " <kkachado wrote: > > I like stevia but since I don't drink hot drinks I don't use it > much.
