Does anyone know of a good remedy for dry eyes?

I went to an opthamologist (worthless waste of my money)he said I am

fine. I am not fine...my eyes dry out - especially at night. Eye

drops - commercial stuff feels like I am killing my eye when I use

them - one friend equated them to eye bleach. The best thing I have

found so far is mineral oil. Put 2 drops in each eye at night and much

better but it doesn't cure - just mask it.

any other suggestions?

Yes, I have a suggestion. I use fish oil ( 4 grams )

and this solves the problem. Also, I avoid alchol and

cut back on coffee. Dot

Do you only have dry eyes or also a dry mouth?

If so, it could be

Sjogren's Syndrome (Sjögren's)

and Sjogren's can be caused by Gluten Sensitivity

http://members.cox.net/harold.kraus/gluten/longlist.htm

My husband's problem (dry eyes and mouth) has disappeared since we started to

eat gluten free.

All the best,

For me, dry eyes tends go along with dry nose & dry mouth. I began

scrubing my gums 3 times a day with 5-10 grops of Lugol's Iodine in an

ounce or two of water, then spitting it out. Iodine deficiency can

cause dry mouth and sinuses.

I have an unrelated question for you, you said you had almost reversed

your diabetes, what did you use? I was recently diagnosed and cannot

take the Rx... and I have been using fenugreek to regulate my blood

sugar and an herbal mix called Glucose Balance.

I take the fish oil tablets and drink a lot of water.

The day after a few drinks I can't wear my contacts. I

put eye drops in my eyes and wait a few minutes

before putting in my contacts. I bought a vision

vitamin on iherb- a great discount vitamin store

online. Just google vision, ther are several. The one

I bought is in a orange bottle- Now Vitamins for

vision.

try castor oil. I have the same problem. castor oil helps. most

commercial eyes lubricants contain castor oil.

Moderators Note: I have been posting about using castor oil in the eyes for

years and no one believes me. It must be cold pressed and cold processed castor

oil though. Get it at the health food store and not from the drug store. It has

cured all eye infections for my family for over 20 years now. It is thick and

gooey stuff, but no pain upon use just blurry vision for a few minutes.

*Beta-Catotene(fruits; vegs) is converted to Vitamin A in the body.

Another condition Vitamin A Fish-Oil prevents is Night Blindness or

Yes I can cry - but don't suggest this as a way to make them not

dry...if you cry your eyes get red and irritated and mine usually

feel awful in a few hours.

I didn't mean to suggest you try crying to moisten your eyes. It was

just a question, in regards to the possibility of a clogged or

blocked tear duct.

Thanks for the clarification...I have already had two people send me

private emails that suggested I cry...

The doctor checked all of the ducts etc.

I do get quite a bit of relief with the mineral oil at night. I put

2 drops in each eye and go to sleep. I guess I was just looking to

see if someone knew of something better or different. I am going

over to Canada in a few weeks to see if they have anything I can't

get here.

I understand your frustration. I started having dry eyes while

dealing with Grave's Disease and TED. The Ophthamologist recommended

eye surgery for various reasons, but I wanted to try natural remedies

first and I started doing a few things:

- using Similasan homeopathic eye drops (found in most any health

store)

- eye exercises

- chunging (it's a book called " Chunging " ) - it provided eye

exercises, eye accupressure, rinsing the eyes, along with many other

instructions

- drinking greens and carrot juice (separately)

- and cutting onions as much as possible and inhaling through my nose

as deeply as possible to stimulate my eyes for tearing

- using a homeopathic nose spray called Flu Mist to help clear my

sinuses

My eyes are normal again. Hope this helps!
