[GranniesAgainstGeorge] # An Internet Update and Semi-Mea Culpa

First; go here for a summary of the story and some resource links from

the Salem, Oregon Salem-News:

****

On Sunday, I had read that the Net Neutrality bill had passed and that

this

battle on the National level was over. This isn't quite right.

The Bill has passed the House. It was tied in the Senate Commerce

committee,

not the full Senate. 85-year old Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska has

delivered

an historically stupid explanation of how the internet works and why the

bill should pass, crowning his inept career.

For your amusement: Extended link to Sen. Stevens' explanation of the

internet, from Wired Magazine:

Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon has put a 'hold' on this Bill forcing a full

Senate debate. There is talk of a filibuster.

The Salem, Oregon paper covers the story, including Wyden's role:

This is all much, much, much more IMPORTANT than the current events gossip

that passes for " politics " most of the time in this country. This is real.

The whole world is involved in this digital land-grab. Here is an

Australian

Business publication covering the story:
