Dear Health Freedom Advocate,

 

So we get asked a lot about Codex Alimentarius and its impact on dietary

supplements.  I don’t have an easy answer for you, but if you’re

interested, I

can point you in the right direction for more information.

 

While the trade associations are focusing on the business aspect, we are

working with several organizations on the consumer perspective.

 

We hosted a 2-day Codex workshop last April which over 50 leading

organizations and experts attended.  From that meeting, a coalition (both

formally and

informally) was created to focus on this one issue.  The Coalition for Health

Freedom (www.coalitionforhealthfreedom.org) has been working quietly behind the

scenes for many months and will be making a public statement this summer about

its work.  (Between you and me, I’m aware of what they are doing and I

can’t

wait to see the result – it is desperately needed for this battle.)

 

I know that there are a lot of conflicting news and opinions about how (or

if) international food standards are going to affect the US (and other

countries).  It’s just not between the trade associations and consumers

groups.  There

is conflict within the health freedom community over this issue and in

particular the activity and credibility of one or two organizations. 

 

In fact, we lost a board member last year because they wanted to support

another group who was focused just on Codex “because they were doing

something.â€Â 

While I was very sorry to see him go, the fact is that you can do something

by hitting a cat with your car, but it doesn’t mean you’re actually

accomplishing something worthwhile.

 

So, to set the record straight, the nonprofit groups that we work with and

support in their Codex activities are as follows:

 

Alliance for Natural Health

is our international affiliate and is doing a lot of work on European Food

Supplements Directive and Codex.  In fact, Europeans may lose access to

thousands of food supplements if the ANH legal challenge is not successfully

fought in

the High Court in London later this year or early next.  While a lot of

people thought that the legal challenge that ANH brought to the European Court

of

Justice in 2003 was over and that nothing could be achieved by returning the

High Court, nothing could be further from the truth.  All of the gains made in

the ECJ ruling will not find their way into national laws UNLESS they go back

to court! They need to raise about $60,000 so please make a donation.  What is

being doing in Europe will ultimately affect the US.  You may make a donation

directly to ANH or you can make a tax-deductible donation to Health Freedom

Foundation (https://secure.ga4.org/01/HFF_donations) to support international

efforts – just specify that you want your donation (or a portion) to go

towards

international efforts. 

 

Coalition for Health Freedom,

a 501c4, comprised of many different organizations and leaders.  Expect to

hear more about them shortly.

 

American Holistic Health Association,

http://www.ahha.org/

an educational organization led by Suzan Walters.  Works very hard at being

neutral and accurate.

 

National Health Federation, the only health freedom organization to have

delegate status in Codex. 

 

Dr. Rath Foundation.  I strongly urge you to spend the next 15 minutes or so

and read the following articles.  They are well researched and clearly show

how issues can be twisted or interpreted differently.
