Guest guest
Iodine combats breast cysts We do not as a rule report on items from newspapers; this one, however, is so intriguing that we thought we would make an exception. Please bear in mind that iodine supplementation may not be advisable for everyone particularly for those with thyroid problems. Please check with your physician before embarking on self-medication. VICTORIA, CANADA. Dr. David Derry received his MD from the University of British Columbia, a PhD in biochemistry from McGill University, and was assistant professor in pharmacology at the University of Toronto - impeccable credentials indeed. He has been practising as a family doctor in Victoria for the last 25 years. In 1993 Dr. Derry became intrigued by a report in the Canadian Journal of Surgery which described the benefits of iodine in reducing fibrocystic breast lumps. Since then he has advised over 200 of his female patients to take extra iodine in order to remove cysts. The results have been spectacular. Although complete disappearance of the lumps may take anywhere from two months to two years the success rate so far has been 100 per cent. Dr. Derry is adamant that most women do not get nearly enough iodine in their diet to protect their breasts against lump formation and also believes that a lack of iodine may be an important risk factor for breast cancer. He recommends 5-10 drops (milligrams) per day of a preparation of calcium, potassium, and iodide (Lugol's solution) taken in a glass of orange juice. However, some of his patients have found just one drop a day to be beneficial. NOTE: Antiseptic iodine is not recommended as it contains poisonous wood alcohol. Dedyna, Katherine.
