Hey Su,

That sounds real sweet .. and thankee mucho. :-P

> Thank you Butch for the chuckle ( I read it out loud and even my 10

> wonderful camraderie...

Glad the little one liked it and welcome you are from my end.

My next mission is replying to you on that Hawaiian proposal .. been in

the Suspense File and to tell you the truth, I forgot to check the dang

Suspense File. :-(

> Mahalo mucho,

> Su (who is drinking Linden tea, feeling warm and toasty on this stormy

> day in Hawaii!)

Great .. Linden Tea beats that Primo Beer all to pieces. When I used to

hunt dem peegs up in Koli-Koli Pass with some Portegee fellers, we would

come down hotter a firecracker and suck a buncha that bad suds. ;-p

Some of the many things I really miss about Hawaii is fresh Mahimahi,

Wahoo, Aku, Ahi and Ono .. and any kind of sheshemi. :-P

And the Pearl City Tavern .. I miss that .. watching the Spider Monkeys

acting crazy behind the bar. ;-)

Don't know if I told you or not . I lived on Oahu from 1972-1975 .. at

Schofield Barracks. I have a good buddy on the Oahu North Shore, at

Hauula .. Graf Shintaku .. he owns Green Growers of Hawaii - hydroponics

tomato farm. Used to ride quarter horses there .. not many folks know

that Hawaiians are big into rodeo riding. Another good buddy I served

with in the 1960s .. he's with the Post Office in Hawaii now, Leland

Matsukawa .. Skoshi I called him cause he was short. ;-p

I remember one New Year Eve at Graf's home .. Japanese style we were all

sitting on the floor at low tables .. woman at one and men at another.

Men at my table were passing around some stinky jar giggling, passing it

along and such .. now and then one would take a bite. Came to me and I

smelled it .. it would gag a maggot off a gut wagon .. was fish guts

pickled in ginger. The young Japanese guys there said your couldn't pay

them to eat it but a couple of the older fellers did .. I guess from old

tradition rather than liking the taste. Anyway .. I decided to play a

joke on my wife (was married then) cause she was good at practical jokes

at my expense. I leaned over to the next table and told her in Turkish

(which she was) that she had to try it as it was a tradition and the

hosts would be offended if she didn't .. so she did .. in the midst of

all the ladies giggling and such. If she hadn't been about half full of

saki at the time I reckon I might have worn the contents .. but she took

it like a trooper. ;-p

I had a vegetable garden 12 months a year .. at least 30-35 different

veggies and Collards so high I had to reach up and pull them down to get

the new leaves off. Used to collect Guava .. my favorite drink in all

the world - well, maybe its second to Kentucky Bourbon ... ;-) Used to

collect them from the hills on Oahu .. put them in a blender and then

squeeze out the pulp through a cloth, freeze it in milk cartons.

I commanded a Military Police Company then .. and we were members of the

Hawaii Joint Police Association (HJPA). Hawaii 5-0 used HJPA guys, like

HPD and MPs .. for extras in all their shows. I played in two .. one

with a fine feller named Slim Pickins (RIP). We would all eat together

at a catered lunch during filming .. and Dano (James McArthur) was one

nice feller .. sat with the nobodies and joked and such .. but McGarret

(RIP .. Jack Lord) was not very friendly.

Used to fish for Peko Bass at Lake Wilson .. we would catch minnows in

the streams on the North Shore .. and the minnows we used were Black

Mollies, Swordtails and other tropical fish that were useless there but

folks on the mainland like to keep them in tanks.

Down near Waiani .. there was a stream coming into the sea from the

hills around Luleluelea (Sp?) and it was full of crabs and mullet. Had

a nylon throw net a Hawaiian buddy wove for me .. could catch 100-150

mullet in one cast. Good little rascals they are when fried up.

I had some good times there .. fished and crabbed and dove every cove on

Oahu. Never ran short of bananas as my back yard was full of them ..

and coconuts were a weed .. they would cut them down on the main streets

and parks and dump them in the garbage cause they were dangerous .. fall

on you and you gone buffalo. Went back one time .. business with the

Navy at Pearl. Had only a day free but managed to see my old buddies at

Green Growers and ramble back up in the hills around Koli Koli .. where

the sacrificial rocks were .. creators of Menehunes. ;-p

Those of you who haven't visited Hawaii should consider it .. and don't

miss the Polynesian Culture Center and show .. its the best thing on the

island. Best to avoid Wakiki as its expensive and the beach sucks .. go

to the Western and North Shores .. best it is there and cheaper.

Y'all keep smiling, Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
